Today we're focussing on this FA Cup round's David vs Goliath clash, as Premier League giants Manchester City travel down to League Two Cheltenham Town.
Cheltenham are on a 5 game unbeaten run in all competitions, however all of their last four league games have ended in draws. The only win in this run was a 2-1 win over Mansfield Town in the last round of the FA Cup. Manager Michael Duff is unlikely to veer from his usual 3-5-2 formation with May and Williams leading the line. Goals tend to come from all of their park however.
Pep’s side are now in blistering form, having won their last nine games in a row in addition to being undefeated since their loss to Spurs way back on November 21. Pep tends to take the FA Cup seriously, so we should see a fairly strong city team fielded, most likely with Phil Foden and Riyadh Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus leading the line as they did in the last round.
This is the first recorded competitive meeting between Cheltenham Town and Manchester City, therefore there is non head to head record to speak of. City have fallen victim to a famous FA Cup upset in recent times though, as in 2018 a single goal from the legendary Will Grigg was enough for League One Wigan to knock Pep Guardiola’s men out in the 5th Round of the country’s oldest competition.
Given that Pep takes his cup ties seriously, we should see a relatively strong City defense paired with a decent attacking trio and potential goals from midfield. He’ll want his players to conserve energy, however we’re still backing City to score at least 4 goals at odds of 5/4 with SkyBet.
