Another Manchester Derby beckons as City welcome United to the Etihad with both teams on the hunt for a valuable three points and the bragging rights of Manchester.
It has been 85 days and 18 games in all competitions since Pep Guardiola’s incredible Manchester City last tasted defeat in any competitions. City have put together an excellent run of form at exactly the right time as they look to overtake Liverpool and win their fourth Premier League title on the spin.
On Sunday, they host city rivals Manchester United who will be looking to do all they can to inflict defeat and disrupt City’s superb run. City are yet to lose at home this season and are one of only two sides to be so in the Premier League.
Despite results in recent times looking positive from a Manchester United perspective, the performances in those games have left a lot to be desired. In the Premier League this season, Manchester United have faced the second most shots on goal, with only bottom side Sheffield United facing more shots than the Red Devils.
In the recent loss to Fulham, United were dominated on their own turf and it is more than fair to say that the Cottagers deserved the win. It will certainly be a hard task for the Red Devils if they are to come away with anything from Sunday’s game.
The last five meetings between these two sides in all competitions have all followed a very similar pattern, with Manchester City being the dominant force and winning four of those five. In those five games, there have been a plethora of goals scored with 23 goals shared between the sides for an average of 4.6 goals per game. The last five Premier League meetings at the Etihad between these two sides have seen some dominance from home side City as they have won four of those five.
Manchester City’s home record this season has been incredible, with the Citizens still to lose at the Etihad this season. City rivals Manchester United boast a solid away record, with the fourth best in the league. These statistics up against each other will certainly make for an entertaining clash
Despite the Red Devils having a solid away record in the Premier League, it is very hard to see that the result will be anything but a City win.
As has been mentioned above, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side are the clear favourites ahead of Sunday afternoon’s fixture. This season as a whole has been of dominance from City as they rank third in the league for goals scored as well as least goals conceded. Not only that but goal-scoring machine Erling Haaland tops the goalscoring charts and will be full of confidence following his five goal haul in midweek. Despite United having a good record away from home, the Etihad has not been a happy hunting ground for them of late with only one win in their last five Premier League visits there.
