Three days after Arsenal’s 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, the sides meet again, each looking to build on unbeaten runs in the Premier League.
Crystal Palace had been unable to pick up where they left off last season as it took them until October 27th to notch their first success of 2024-25. The picture is much prettier now, with the win over rivals Brighton & Hove Albion making it five games unbeaten in the league.
Oliver Glasner’s side have earned points against Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa during this run. They face another stern test on Saturday evening against a side they caused problems for at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
Palace scored the first and last goals in north London, but a Gabriel Jesus hat-trick saw them exit the competition.
Arsenal have dropped points in each of their last two league outings. The draw at Fulham can be excused in isolation but the stalemate at home to Everton was a concern.
Fortunately for the Gunners, leaders Liverpool have also stuttered recently but maintain a healthy advantage over Mikel Arteta’s side, who are four points behind second-placed Chelsea.
With just one win in their last six on the road in the Premier League, this could be a defining month for Arsenal’s season. Three of their next four matches are away from home before a home double-header against Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
Arsenal’s away record at Crystal Palace in the Premier League is favourable, with the Gunners losing only two of their 15 matches and winning nine.
The Eagles’ two victories were both by a 3-0 scoreline and were particularly damaging results for Arsene Wenger and Arteta respectively. They each took place in April, once in 2017 and again in 2022, and both left the Gunners outside the top four, where they finished on both occasions.
Arteta’s side have won with a clean sheet in each of their last two visits to Selhurst Park. The Arsenal manager also has happy memories as a player in Croydon, having scored for the Gunners in a 2-0 triumph in 2013.
The Carabao Cup success on Wednesday kept up a good run of results for Arsenal against the Eagles, but they will be mindful of some dreadful nights at Selhurst Park in recent years.
Palace’s home form is far from ideal, but they can take encouragement from their improvement over the last month.
It was a high-scoring affair between these clubs in midweek with much-changed lineups. The best bet for Saturday is the complete opposite, as we go for under 2.5 goals.
Arsenal have prevailed in closely contested games at Palace in each of the last two seasons, and something similar could be on the cards on Saturday.
Selhurst Park has seen the fewest Premier League goals in 2024-25, with under 2.5 landing in six of eight in South London.
The Gunners’ away matches have followed a similar trend, with six of their eight road trips resulting in under 2.5 goals.
When Crystal Palace have been the underdogs at home this season, they have generally managed to keep games tight. They held Manchester United to a goalless draw, while matches against Liverpool and Tottenham were decided by the odd goal.
The Eagles scored a late equaliser against Newcastle to make it 1-1 last month. Their only high-scoring encounter with an away favourite was two weeks ago against Manchester City whose expected goals-against figure is higher than anybody else in the top half.
