Nine positions and 10 points separated Brentford and Crystal Palace seven weeks ago, but the Eagles have closed that gap and could leapfrog their opponents on Sunday.
Mateta Rediscovers Form
Crystal Palace’s six-game unbeaten run has come largely thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has scored four goals in three games including a brace that helped the Eagles win 2-0 at West Ham United last weekend.
Oliver Glasner’s side have kept three consecutive clean sheets - two of which came in the league - and have turned things around after a disappointing start to the campaign.
There is room for improvement at Selhurst Park, though. Palace have picked up just 11 points at home, compared to 16 on the road. They hope to be able to call upon Jefferson Lerma, who missed the previous match due to illness.
Bees Feeling the Sting
It is a difficult period for Brentford, who since mid-December have exited both domestic cups and won just one of seven in the league, with that sole triumph coming at bottom-side Southampton.
The Bees were the best home side in the top flight before Christmas. That accolade was put to the test as they welcomed four of the league’s top five clubs to the Gtech Community Stadium, and they could only take one point from those outings.
They did at least earn their first away success during that time, but Palace will pose a much sterner test than the Saints did three weeks ago.
Brentford got the better of Crystal Palace in the reverse fixture in August, but it was not a game without controversy. Eberechi Eze thought he had given the Eagles a first-half lead from a direct free-kick but referee Samuel Barrott blew for a foul by Will Hughes before the ball hit the net.
The Bees showed no remorse, as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa each netted to hand Brentford their first win over the South London outfit since 1977.
Palace won this fixture 3-1 at Selhurst Park last season, ending a run of five consecutive draws between the sides.
There has not been much between these two clubs since Brentford were promoted in 2021. They have each taken eight points from the seven meetings, with neither side able to win on the opposition's turf.
The best bet for this match is for Crystal Palace to win or draw, and Brentford to have fewer than six corners.
Palace to Avoid Defeat
Crystal Palace are among the Premier League’s form teams, having registered the same number of points as Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City over the last five games.
Off the back of three clean sheets (two in the league), and with their centre-forward in terrific nick, they will enter this London derby with plenty of belief, particularly against a Brentford team who have been on the slide over the last six weeks.
Excluding the 5-0 triumph at Southampton, the Bees have struggled for goals away from home, failing to score more than once in each of their fixtures away from the Gtech in 2024-25.
They have also taken very few corners on the road. They have not forced more than five in any away match, averaging just 3.5 corners per game on their travels.
Palace have conceded fewer than six corners in eight of their 11 encounters with bottom-half sides, with two of the three exceptions coming against underachievers Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
