This is an intriguing encounter. Both nations are likely to play the same formation. England have stumbled their way through to this stage whilst Switzerland have looked really impressive.
England have been massively underwhelming. Gareth Southgate’s men have won just once inside 90 minutes across four matches. Slovakia outclassed England in the previous round. Jude Bellingham’s last-minute equaliser was their first shot on target. An improved performance is necessary if they want to go further in this competition.
I think it’s fair to say that the Three Lions will always be tough to beat. It’s a squad with excellent depth and talent. Southgate will change the formation on Saturday evening against a strong Switzerland side. Marc Guehi is suspended for this clash. Ezri Konsa is likely to make an appearance in a back three alongside Kyle Walker and John Stones.
Murat Yakin and his side will be confident. They know that beating England is well within their reach. Switzerland beat Hungary in the opening game, then drew with Scotland and Germany. The Swiss were dominant against Italy in the previous round as they ran out as comfortable 2-0 winners.
Yann Sommer is a fantastic goalkeeper. Manuel Akanji and Fabian Schar have been awesome. Michel Aebischer has impressed with two assists and a goal. Dan Ndoye and Ruben Vargas have looked lively throughout. Granit Xhaka, what a player. The man from Bayer Leverkusen is the heartbeat of this side. He pulls the strings and dictates the tempo. England must keep him quiet.
These nations will be familiar with one another. They last met in 2022. England won 2-1 that day with goals from Luke Shaw and Harry Kane. The previous competitive clash came in 2019. It was a game with few chances, as penalty kicks separated the two sides in a goalless draw.
Well, it’ll be an interesting affair. The 3-5-2 formation will be used by both sides. Switzerland is used to playing this way, which may give them an advantage. Big names such as Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane have been poor in Euro 2024. An improved performance from the pair is needed.
England are the favourites for this encounter. It’s understandable why, but why would anyone want to back them after recent matches? Southgate is the wrong man for the job. The sooner he leaves, the better.
England needs to improve, it's that simple. Switzerland will be their toughest test so far in Germany. It will be interesting to see how they perform in the 3-5-2 formation as they'll match up against Murat Yakin's team. It's going to be an intriguing match with few goals expected.
The prices look about right in the major markets. I don't want to get involved with the Asian Lines given how difficult it is to predict an outcome. I've backed a particular player in the prop markets as my selection for this encounter.
Dan Ndoye has been heavily involved so far in Euro 2024. The man from Bologna has recorded 13 and committed nine fouls across 314 minutes in Germany.
Switzerland’s number 19 recorded four shots against Hungary and four in their draw with Scotland. Ndoye managed two shots and scored against Germany. He recorded another four in Switzerland’s win over Italy.
His foul numbers have been just as consistent. Ndoye has committed multiple fouls in every encounter, with 2, 3, 3 and 2. Those came against Hungary, Scotland, Germany and Italy, respectively.
I don’t think Switzerland should fear England. I don’t think they need to either. Dan Ndoye will relish the chance of facing this England side. He’s bang in form and will be desperate to continue his impressive stats. The 23-year-old is priced appealing in the shots market.
Betfair has the best prices. We can back Ndoye to have one shot, commit one foul and the game to have three or fewer goals at 1.83 (5/6). Punters who are feeling brave can go even further with these selections. Ndoye 2+ Shots, 2+ Fouls Committed & Under 3.5 Goals at 5.10 (4.10/1).
I like the proposed selection. Ndoye is a handful and will be continuously making an effort. England’s defence will need to be alert against this Swiss attack.
There are several selections available here. I’ll be bold and take a punt on the 5.10 play. England have been fouled plenty in this tournament. Let’s hope that continues.
Ndoye 2+ Shots, 2+ Fouls Committed & Under 3.5 Goals at 5.10 (4.10/1). That’s my selection.
