The Premier League returns this weekend after both the FA Cup and some midweek action. Whilst Everton fell to another defeat, Leeds United fought to a point at Villa Park. For today’s tip it is the important fixture between Everton and Leeds United at Goodison Park
Everton are in a period of transition entering Saturday’s fixture. They’ve already played two games under Frank Lampard - one win and one defeat. However, that one defeat came to Newcastle United, only the third win for the Magpies.
Unfortunately, Lampard will have a weaker squad than usual. Demarai Gray is currently at a 25% chance of playing due to his pelvic injury, whilst Abdoulaye Doucoure and Ben Godfrey are long-term absences.
Leeds United, much like Everton, have struggled to find form during the 2021/22 season. They found some form before the FA Cup fixtures, winning two in a row, but they haven’t won in two. During the midweek fixtures, they clawed to a point at Villa Park, giving them some momentum for Saturday’s fixture.
Leeds United are battling against relegation with the spine of their team absent. Defender Liam Cooper is out with a thigh injury, midfielder Kalvin Phillips is suffering a similar fate, and Patrick Bamford cannot lead the line due to an ankle injury.
In the three fixtures since Leeds returned to the Premier League, they have an even record. Leeds United won the first encounter between the two sides, a 1-0 win at Goodison Park in 2020.
However, Everton haven’t lost since to Leeds United. They were victorious in the reverse fixture in 2021, a 2-1 win at Elland Road for the Toffees. Earlier this season, the two sides couldn’t be separated with a 2-2 draw.
Both teams need a valuable win to ease their relegation fears. In our opinion, Everton get the home victory against Leeds United, securing Frank Lampard’s first Premier League home victory in his Everton tenure. Everton to win is 23/20 with Betfred.
