Manchester City will still be on cloud nine after being crowned FIFA Club World Champions, but they need to get their league form in order if they are to win the Premier League for a fourth successive year. Everton have made a mockery of their recent 10-point deduction by claiming 12 points from their last six matches.
If Everton had not received a 10-point deduction they would currently have 26 points and would be in the top half. The fact is, they are not, and they are only four points clear of the relegation places. They saw a stunning four-match winning run – in which they failed to concede a single goal – come to an end at Tottenham at the weekend, but their performance showed they can mix it with the best in the league. The Toffees have a relatively full squad to choose from with Abdoulaye Doucoure out injured and Dele Alli still not ready to return to action following his off-field troubles.
Manchester City might have picked up another trophy recently, but their league form has not been anything to write home about. While they have been away at the FIFA Club World Cup, they have dropped out of the top four and are now in fifth position. They have won just one of their last five league games with one defeat and three draws. They will not win the title with form like that. The Blues are missing Kevin de Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku. It will be interesting to see if Pep Guardiola will rest any players following their trip to Saudi Arabia.
Manchester City have dominated Everton in recent years. The defending champions have won 10 of their last 11 meetings in the Premier League. The last time the Toffees took three points off City was back in January 2017 when they won 4-0 at Goodison Park.
Everton have been in fine form since they were handed that 10-point deduction, while City have not been firing on all cylinders. I think City are going through the motions at the moment but they will soon hit top form. I am backing the visitors to win to nil and silence a very vocal Goodison Park crowd. Check out these stats and best betting odds ahead of the game.
Our Betting Tip for Today- Manchester City to win to nil - 13/8 @ Bet365
City look off the pace in the Premier League, but they are still capable of beating every team in the division. They are the favourites at 4/7 with Everton on offer at 19/4. The draw can be backed at 3/1.
Manchester City might have only won one of their last five Premier League matches, but they are not the treble winners for nothing. Now their FIFA Club World Cup commitments are out of the way, I think we will see a more focused and determined City. I think they will dominate possession in this game and come away with a narrow win to nil.
