Brighton 2026/27 Betting Preview

Publish Date: 13/08/2026

Brighton fell at the final hurdle, missing out on the Europa League by one point, but will hope to bounce back in the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler has been with the club since 2024 but no doubt the 33-year-old will be feeling the pressure to deliver after an up and down season saw his team fall short of expecations.

However, he has been backed financially to go again but the Seagulls board will demand improvement. Nathan Joyes analyses those transfer deals and looks to work out what that means for Brighton this season.

Team analysis

While Brighton finished the 2025/26 campaign with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Man United, the Seagulls still walked away with the 7th best home form. That was better than Brentford, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Chelsea, to name a few.

However, what potentially cost them a Europa League spot was their form on their travels. Picking up just 20 points from a possible 57, only six clubs performed worse, and three of those were relegated.

If Brighton are to build on their 7th placed finish, Fabian Hurzeler must find a way to start winning away matches. With clean sheets hard to come by on the road, this is probably why the head coach has looked to bring in plenty of new defenders.

There have been plenty of changes this summer - both in terms of incoming and outgoings - that will give Brighton a new look this season. Diego Coppola struggled to make an impression on the south coast and has departed for Paris, while Carl Rushworth made his move to Coventry permanent and Facundo Buonanotte has been loaned to La Liga's Elche.

In terms of those that have joined the club, Brighton have not messed around this window. No less than six new faces have joined the club. Pascal Struijk has signed from Leeds for £20m, defender Michael Svoboda arrives from Venezia, alongside fellow defender Costinha from Olympiacos for £10m.

The cheapest deal saw Benfica's Rodrigo Rego transfer for £3m, although two further deals were quite considerably more expensive. AIK's Zadok Yohanna has been brought to the club for over £22m, with the highly-rated 19-year-old set to prove himself in the Premier League.

Brighton's biggest deal of the window saw them sign Spurs' Luka Vuskovic for around £48m. The 19-year-old defender spent last season at Hamburg, where he scored six goals in 28 appearances, and Brighton were keen to bring him in and make him part of their new-look defence.

Key players

While several new faces have joined the club, one particular cult hero will line up against Brighton over the coming months. That's because Danny Welbeck, who scored 13 Premier League goals last campaign, has signed for Chelsea. The 35-year-old has been a popular figure within the dressing room over the last few seasons, and departs the club unexpectedly.

Still, Brighton have kept hold of many senior players this window who will be itching to return to the pitch and take Brighton into at least the Europa League. Kaoru Mitoma's season was impacted due to injury and he may need time to settle back in, but the 29-year-old remains a key player for the south coast club.

With Welbeck gone, Charalampos Kostoulas may have more opportunities to shine, and no doubt the Greek forward will be hoping to add more than two Premier League goals to his tally this time round.

Elsewhere, Diego Gomez will once again prove to be a really important player for Hurzeler. The 23-year-old diverse midfielder was one of the first names on the teamsheet last season and the Paraguayan will want to build on his five Premier League goals and establish himself as a midfielder opponents will have to be wary of throughout the season.

Season prediction

With Spurs spending big this summer, Brighton have been knocked down the pecking order by the bookmakers for a 6th placed finish or higher. Currently 7/2, they are the outside pick, alongside Aston Villa, to improve on what they achieved last year.

They are, however, well fancied to finish inside the top 10. Priced at 8/15, it's not exactly a banker, but it would be a huge shock for Brighton to invest in plnety of new players and fall off.

However, a market that looks wide open and a real opportunity to profit from is Brighton's top goalscorer antepost. With Mitoma the favourite at 9/2, who isn't necessarily a solid selection, I have been drawn towards Diego Gomez at 10/1. The Paraguayan was their second top goalscorer last season with five, and that might be enough if Brighton's forwards fail to fire.

An alternative could well be Yankuba Minteh at 7/1, who only bagged three, but may play a more important role this time round. However, my main pick is to back Gomez at double digits, and if he improves on five goals, he will certainly be in the running at a huge price.
