Everton will look to improve on their 13th place finish last season under David Moyes. The move into their new home didn’t work out as planned, only collecting more points in front of their fans than six other teams.

Team analysis

There were no real major thrills when it came to watching Everton last season, who finished 13th and 10 points above the drop yet remarkably were only five points off a Europa League spot. A poor run of form cost them towards the back end of the season, but there were far more deserving clubs than the Toffees who will need to roll their sleeves up and go again this time round.

David Moyes has settled things at the club during his second stint, although the Scot would like to improve home form which was sub-par at their new stadium last season.

Only six clubs had worse form in front of their own fans last season, where Everton only managed to pick up 23 points from a possible 57, conceding more than they scored in the process.

Their away form, however, was what put them in contention for a Europa League spot. The 7th best, Everton picked up more points on the road than arch-rivals Liverpool - a small bragging right for those in Blue.

But fans will demand better this time round. There has been no major outgoing as of yet in the window, while plenty of cash has been spent to strengthen their squad. If they can crack their home form, Everton may have every chance of finishing in the top eight and guaranteeing some kind of European competition.

Three new additions have been added to Everton’s squad ahead of the upcoming campaign. Just over £18m was spent to bring in Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney after impressing in the Championship, while Chelsea’s Tyrique George made his loan move permanent in a £19m deal.

The Toffees went across to Germany to pick up Freiburg’s Merlin Rohl after the German impressed during his loan spell last campaign. The 24-year-old cost just over £21.5m - their biggest deal of the summer thus far.

Neither Beto and Thierno Barry were able to score double figures last season, despite coming close, and more will be expected from Moyes’ preferred forwards this time round. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall fulfilled his promise after his big money move from Chelsea, and the 27-year-old will no doubt be one of the first names on the teamsheet each week.

Season prediction

For those that believe that Everton can go one better this year and finish inside the top 10, Moyes' men are available to back at 6/5 to finish at least 10th. The market suggests they will be fighting it out with Newcastle, who have lost not only their head coach but three major players this window.

And while the likes of Sunderland and Bournemouth focus on European football, Everton have the opportunity to secure it themselves for next season. And it's a bet I like. The Toffees need to get more comfortable with their surroundings but if their new signings can get up and running, the 6/5 might look rather generous by Christmas.

Beto (13/8) and Thierno Barry (15/8) are the two market leaders to battle it out for Everton's top goalscorer award, while Ilman-Cheikh Ndiaye is also in the running at 2/1.

However, the best bet could be to back Barry, who may thrive in his second season in the Premier League. At a bigger price, the Frenchman may only need 10 goals - two more - this time round in order to win the bet.
