Liverpool 2026/27 Betting Preview

Publish Date: 11/08/2026
Fact checked by: Jordan Noble

Liverpool are another team that will have a new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign, who will be hoping to bounce back after a mediocre campaign under Arne Slot.

Andoni Iraola has swapped life on the south coast with Bournemouth for his new role at Anfield, and while the Spaniard has received a warm welcome from the supporters, Iraola will need to find a replacement for Mohammed Salah who’s recently departed the club.

With less than three weeks to go until the start of the season, Liverpool have yet to bring in an eye-catching signing, and will that cost them? Nathan Joyes dives into Iraola’s inherited squad and takes a closer look at what Liverpool can achieve in 2026/27.

Team analysis

Liverpool were unable to defend their Premier League crown last season. In fact, they came nowhere near. Finishing 5th, Arne Slot’s side finished a staggering 25 points behind eventual winners Arsenal, and the Dutchman paid the price after losing 20 matches across all competitions in just his second season.

And so the re-build - like many in the Premier League this season - has begun. A swift appointment was made, and it was as good as it possibly gets. Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola was approached and signed, the man who guided the Cherries into the Europa League for the first time in their history with a 6th place finish - just three points behind Liverpool last term.

A man who predominantly likes to use a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation looks to be a good fit considering Liverpool have often preferred this formation under both Jurgen Klopp and Slot over the years.

But Iraola will have his work cut out with this current crop of players. Liverpool are going through a transitional period, and it may take him at least a season or two to bridge the gap with both Arsenal and Man City.

However, Liverpool have got the man they want and are not often trigger happy when it comes to sacking managers. Iraola will be given time, and the fans may need to be patient before Liverpool start climbing up the table.

Key players

Several big names have left the club this summer - and to make matters worse, Liverpool haven’t made a single penny from them.

Centre-back Ibrahima Konate has joined Real Madrid on a free transfer, while Andrew Robertson has moved south to sign for Spurs as part of their own re-build. However, the biggest, and most obvious loss, is Mohammed Salah.

The 34-year-old has raised plenty of eyebrows after choosing to sign for Trabzonspor. And although he didn’t live up to his usual expectations last campaign, the Egyptian still provided 14 goal contributions in 27 Premier League matches. Salah has been their top goalscorer since the 2017/18 campaign, and replacing him is going to be near impossible.

So far, that has largely been the case. Liverpool are huffing and puffing in the market, who have been looking at PSG's Bradley Barcola, but no major signings have joined as of yet. Forward Victor Munoz has signed from Osasuna, but appears to be one for the future, and it appears as though Iraola will need to revive Alexander Isak after he only scored three Premier League goals last season. However, if he recaptures his form shown at Newcastle, he could be Liverpool's best player in the final third - with or without further signings.

Season prediction

Liverpool are surprisingly third favourites to win the Premier League at 5/1 - and after a lack of transfer activity, it’s not a price worth backing heading into the new season. Without Konate or Salah, both influential players at either end of the pitch, and with Liverpool needing to find 25 points on Arsenal - their current squad doesn’t look good enough to achieve that.

However, instead, I’d be more inclined to support Alexander Isak in the Golden Boot market. If fit and ready to go - and the Swede avoids any further injuries over the course of the season, he could be the man to deliver. It’s easy to forget how prolific he was for Newcastle, and if he keeps injury-free, there's few better than him at this level.

With Salah gone, Isak is now Liverpool’s main man, and while they may fail to achieve anything in the Premier League this time round, an each-way bet at 9/1 on the Swede looks to be a far better angle than backing Liverpool to clinch the title.
