Premier League Acca Tips With BetMGM

Gameweek four of the Premier League became more about refereeing decisions than the football itself. Mikel Arteta described the penalty awarded against Ezri Konsa at Sunderland as “unacceptable at this level”, with Arsenal subsequently requesting a meeting with Pro Ref to seek an explanation and question why VAR failed to intervene.

That controversy was soon upstaged by events in the Manchester derby. Phil Foden was controversially dismissed following an altercation with Bruno Fernandes, before Erling Haaland scored the winner from a move in which Enzo Fernandez was clearly offside.

Pro Ref later admitted that awarding the goal was an “error of judgement”, with Howard Webb confirming that Fernandez had almost certainly affected the United defence. The refereeing body also contacted Manchester United to acknowledge the mistake.

Elsewhere, Hull continued their unbeaten start by picking up a point away at Chelsea, and it was the least the Tigers deserved. They outshot Xabi Alonso’s side, created more big chances and won the xG battle.

The struggles continued for Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur. Villa were beaten at home by Nottingham Forest, while Spurs were held to a goalless draw by Everton.

Liverpool were also frustrated by a team they would have expected to beat, as Fulham earned a point at Anfield.

Premier League tipster Ben Smith has picked out five selections for the next round of top-flight action, taking place between Friday, September 18 and Sunday, September 20.

The five picks combine to form a weekend accumulator, with competitive Premier League odds available from BetMGM.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa - Under 2.5 Goals (20/21)

Tottenham are still waiting for their first Premier League goal after four matches and have averaged only 0.94 xG per game. Despite all the glamorous incomings over the summer, their new-look attack has yet to click, with Spurs drawing blanks against Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, Everton and West Ham.

Villa’s numbers are also far from encouraging. Unai Emery’s side have scored only once across their opening four league matches, while their average of 0.78 xG per game is among the lowest in the division.

Both teams are therefore arriving here with the same fundamental problem. They are not creating enough good chances, and neither has shown signs of being capable of taking control of a game through sustained attacking pressure.

There is enough individual quality on both sides for that to change eventually, but the evidence from the opening weeks points towards another match in which clear opportunities are difficult to come by.

Brighton vs Arsenal - Arsenal to Win & Under 4.5 Goals (11/0)

Brighton have made an excellent start, scoring 13 goals across their opening four Premier League matches, so this should be one of Arsenal’s toughest assignments of the season so far.

However, the Gunners have developed a habit of making even difficult matches play out on their terms. Arteta’s side have won all seven games in all competitions this season, with six of those victories featuring fewer than five goals. The exception was Monday’s 4-2 Carabao Cup win at Ipswich, when Arsenal rotated their team.

Their league results have been far more controlled. Arsenal have conceded only once across four matches, beating Coventry 3-0, Aston Villa 1-0, Chelsea 2-1 and Sunderland 2-0. They also limited Napoli to very little in a 1-0 Champions League victory in Italy.

Brighton are clearly capable of testing that defensive record, but their lengthy absentee list includes several important attacking players. Arsenal should have enough to edge another demanding away game.

Nottingham Forest vs Coventry City - Forest to Win & Under 5.5 Goals

Nottingham Forest claimed their first win under Oliver Glasner at Aston Villa last weekend and should be capable of following it up against the Premier League’s bottom side.

Coventry are yet to collect a point or score a goal, but their performances have not been without promise. They competed well at Manchester City and remained in the game against Brighton until a red card changed everything. Forest should win, but I don’t foresee another heavy Sky Blues defeat.

Bournemouth vs Liverpool - Cody Gakpo to Score or Assist (23/20)

Cody Gakpo has arguably been Liverpool’s best attacking player this season, registering a goal or assist in each of his four starts across all competitions.

After a minor injury issue, he returned to play the full 90 minutes against Tottenham in the EFL Cup and marked his comeback with a lovely goal. Gakpo has also created 10 chances across his four starts and supplied the assist for every Alexander Isak goal this season, making him an appealing option for another attacking return.

Fulham vs Manchester United - Fulham Double Chance & Over 0.5 Goals (4/5)

Fulham were much improved against Liverpool, showing the resilience to keep the Reds out while also dictating the game themselves at times, particularly in the first half.

Confidence is low at Manchester United after another poor run of results, and the mood at Old Trafford turned sour following their 3-2 EFL Cup defeat to Brighton. Fulham are capable of adding to their problems.
