Tottenham 2026/27 Betting Preview

Tottenham survived relegation by the skin of their teeth last season, and after two years fighting at the wrong end of the Premier League table, it's time to change.

The board appointed Roberto De Zerbi to save them - which he did - and now the Italian head coach has work to do in order to get Spurs back into Europe.

Team analysis

Tottenham stayed up thanks to a 1-0 win over Everton on the final day of the Premier League season. The fans, players and board know this can't simply can't happen again, and they will be hoping De Zerbi can be the man to lead them on to better things.

Last season, only the three relegated clubs conceded more goals than Spurs. They also only outscored five clubs at the other end of the pitch, but De Zerbi's job last campaign was to come in and save a sinking ship. Three wins from seven was just about enough to get them over the line - but he will have different ambitions this time round, rather than scrapping at the wrong end of the table.

De Zerbi isn't a man who won't mind shaking up his tactics. When the Italian came in, he varied his formation from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1, looking to not only match opponents where possible but find a formation that could find holes against his opponents. This is a man that loves to win, and players must buy into his tactics, usually involving building up from the back, if Spurs are to have success this season.

As a result of his approach, several new players have been brought in to change their mentality to a winning one from the get go. Spurs have dug deep into their pockets and spent some serious cash during the summer break, and we'll soon find out whether De Zerbi's targets were worth their price tags.

Key players

Spurs spent close to £100m to bring in Newcastle's Sandro Tonali. The 26-year-old has been a key player up north over the last two seasons but with Newcastle seemingly falling apart, Tottenham moved quickly to secure their first target of the window. The Italian will play a key role under De Zerbi as part of his new look midfield this season.

The club weren't done there. West Ham's Mateus Fernandes signed for almost £90 after their relegation to the Championship. The 22-year-old  made seven goal contributions last campaign as the Hammers struggled in the Premier League, but De Zerbi was very keen to bring him across London and build the team around him.

Spurs also spent £50m on Brighton's Jan Paul van Hecke. After shipping in way too many goals last campaign, Spurs were always going to bring in a new defender but they've secured a solid centre-back that has no doubt pleased fans.

Joining the trio on free transfers are Bournemouth's Marco Senesi, Liverpool's Andy Robertson and Burnley's Martin Dubravka. Spurs are reportedly not yet done in the transfer window, but their early work has been very impressive.

Of those still at the club, Djed Spence hasn't moved on, which could prove to be key, while fans will be hoping to see more of Dominic Solanke at the other end of the pitch. Richarlison scored 11 Premier League goals last season, and once again the Brazilian will be vital when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net.

Even if Tottenham fail to bring in anyone else, their transfer business has certainly upgraded their squad, and there's a different feel around the club this year.

Season prediction

So what can Spurs achieve? According to the betting, Spurs are 20/1 to win the Premier League. For those that believe their new signings won't work out, they are 50/1 to be relegated to the Championship.

And while I expect neither of those outcomes to happen, Spurs are priced at 10/11 to finish inside the top six. It could be a tall order, despite the number of high profile faces that have come through the door. The market suggests it will be a coin flip between Spurs and Aston Villa, but the latter could struggle to balance their campaign alongside the Champions League.

Similar to Chelsea, Spurs don't have European football to worry about, and that could be an advantage for them. That price may look short to a few punters, but if they continue to work their magic in the transfer market, and now under a top head coach, this could be the season we see Spurs revive themselves.

Huge amounts of cash have been spent, but the incomings look strong, and Spurs can reclaim a top six spot at the expense of Brighton, Newcastle and Everton, who are all next in the market.
