Nottingham Forest are back under the lights at the City Ground as they take on Unai Emery's Aston Villa on Saturday evening. With both teams fighting at the right end of the table, this should be some spectacle.
Nottingham Forest's insanely good season continued when they beat Man United at Old Trafford 3-2 last weekend, lifting them into 5th place ahead of Aston Villa, Brighton and Spurs, to name a few. They have lost three of their last five, but their strong form earlier in the season, as well as their historic win over the Red Devils, has kept them in European competition.
Their fans are in dream land, and a win on Saturday would perhaps see Christmas come slightly earlier for those supporters.
Aston Villa will come to town to play the role of the grinch, having won their last three matches as they continue to claw their way back up the table. A successful midweek trip against Leipzig in the Champions League added wins to their recent ones over both Southampton and Brentford.
However, that win against the German outfit ended a four match losing streak on their travels, and Emery will be cautious his side don't get caught out by Forest's quick counter attacking play.
This particular fixture has produced some rather entertaining affairs over the years - no more so than their 4-2 last season where Aston Villa came out on top at home. Recent results at the City Ground have gone in favour of Forest, with Villa last winning there (3-1) back in 2019.
The year prior, both teams shared an incredible 5-5 draw in the Championship - arguably the league's greatest game of all time - but we can debate that at another time.
Despite Forest's success, it has largely been down to their away form. They have only won three of their seven home games, although it is worth pointing out three of those have come in the last four matches. Nuno Santo has found a system that works, and it'll be up to Aston Villa to stop it.
With both Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa flying in the Premier League, this looks set to be a Christmas cracker at the City Ground, and goals is my main focus heading into this one.
Over 2.5 goals has landed in four of Forest's last five matches - with their latest match (and win) against Manchester United producing five goals at Old Trafford. Three of Aston Villa's last five has seen over 2.5 goals land, which also included a 3-2 win midweek against Leipzig.
It's also impossible to not point out Chris Woods' form after he netted his 10th Premier League goal of the season last weekend. Villa will know about his threat, but stopping the Kiwi appears to be quite the impossible task.
But Villa have a striker of their own - no, not Jhon Duran - who has started to kick on and recapture last year's form. Ollie Watkins has seven goals and three assists to his name, and the 28-year-old is likely to lead the line on Saturday.
Factoring in both Forest and Aston Villa have in-form strikers, and are producing plenty of goals, this fixture feels as though it won't be any different with three huge points at stake. Both sides have the opportunity to leapfrog Man City into fourth place - and a cagey match isn't expected as a result.
With bet365's bet builder, I'm advising you to back both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at 23/20. Good luck to those that follow.
