Nottingham Forest will continue their Champions League charge on Thursday evening when they welcome Brentford to the City Ground. A win would propel Nuno Santo’s side back into 3rd place with just four matches remaining, while the Bees are seeking to finish inside the top 10.
After their disappointing FA Cup semi-final exit to Man City, Forest quickly turn their attention back to the Premier League. Santo’s men have little to no time to feel sorry for themselves, and a win back on home soil sees Forest return to the Champions League places as we reach the final stages of the season.
Having performed so well at the City Ground in 2025 across all competitions (W5 D3 L1), a disappointing defeat in the final minute against Everton mid-April impacted their chances of achieving their dream. Forest can’t afford any more slip ups between now and May - starting with against an in-form Brentford this week.
Many will believe Brentford have little to play for at this stage of the season, but their strong away form gives them a chance of finishing inside the top 10. Five away wins on the bounce came to an end after suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat against Newcastle, before the Bees took the sting out of Arsenal’s ambitious title charge with a 1-1 draw at the Emirates.
However, Brentford lost their first home match of the season against Forest in the reverse fixture, and having previously not lost any of the last four head-to-heads (W2 D2), they travel north hoping to disrupt their Champions League dream.
Since Nottingham Forest's promotion these two sides have faced a total of six times. Brentford have won two, drawn two and only lost for the first time against the Reds this campaign (2-0).
At the City Ground, there has been two clashes and on both occasions, they've finished in a draw. The first was 2-2 and the second was 1-1.
There's no doubt that Forest will be hungry to get back on track and secure Champions League football, but Brentford not only arrive in form, but they've also not lost at the City Ground since 2019 - and before that it was 2006.
While many will expect Forest to bounce back from their FA Cup exit, a few absences from the squad - as well as the pressure to deliver - may allow Brentford to cause the hosts plenty of issues under the City Ground lights.
On so many occasions this season, when the pressure has been on, Forest have delivered. Having only lost one home match in 2025, one would be foolish to write them off, but Brentford have been excellent on their travels of late.
The Bees have scored in all seven away matches this season. On four occasions, they’ve scored at least twice, and on two occasions, they’ve scored at least four.
The main reason for their success has been down to their two strikers, Mbuemo and Wissa, who have scored a combined total of 34 goals between them; Forest’s defence will do well to keep them quiet across the 90 minutes.
And Forest’s defence will be without Ola Aina, who has been one of their standout players this campaign. In the middle, captain Ryan Yates is injured, and his bite was certainly lacking against Man City at the weekend.
Brentford have only failed to score against Forest once in their last five head-to-heads, and with the hosts perhaps a little leggy after their Wembley trip, the visitors can join them on the scoreboard in what should be a cracking game of Premier League football.
Sadly BTTS Yes is short at 8/13, and so it makes more sense to back over 2.5 match goals at 4/5. Good luck if you're following.
