The final fields for the 2026 Breeders’ Cup have now been confirmed. This year, the Breeders’ Cup takes place at Keeneland for the first time since 2022 and we will see another 14 Breeders’ Cup winners join the roll of honour. For those not familiar, the Breeders’ Cup is basically the World Championships of Flat racing, with a combination of races on both Turf and Dirt. With $34,000,000 up for grabs across the 14 Championship races over two days, the best of the best come to compete!
If you’re just finding my content here for the first time, then it is good to have you on board. I’m RacingGav and I have been the resident horse racing expert for Betting.co.uk since March 2025. Within this role I publish free horse racing tips every week and non-tipping content too.
With the Breeders’ Cup attracting a worldwide audience, many casual viewers will be tuning in. For that reason I’d like to highlight a guide I published covering betting fundamentals. If you’re new to betting on horse racing, this article is worth reading and could save you from making rookie errors!
EDT (Eastern Day Time) in Keeneland is four hours ahead of GMT (UK time), but for your convenience, the times below are shown as GMT.
Double: 1pt double @ 15/4 with Unibet
Fourfold: 0.5pt fourfold @ 23.7/1 with Unibet*
*You might find better odds for the fourfold elsewhere
At the time of writing, the best horse racing odds for my Breeders’ Cup double are 15/4 at Unibet. In addition to the great value on the price, they also have a superb welcome offer for new customers. If you bet £20, you’ll get £40 in free bets. If you’re not a Unibet customer currently, be sure to take a look!
Three of the four horses I’ve selected are trained in the UK or Ireland, and my fourth selection is the locally-trained Bacio. You may just think I’m biased here, but us Brits and the Irish always do well at the Breeders’ Cup. In the last five years around a third of the Championship races (23/70) have been won by horses from the UK or Ireland.
What makes this angle more interesting is that horses from this side of the Atlantic have never won any of the Dirt races, which make up half of the Breeders’ Cup. Conversely, we dominate the Turf races, producing circa two thirds of the Championship race winners in the last five years.
I’m confident that Bacio and Notable Speech will take some beating, so they feature in my double, and I’ve included them in my fourfold too. In the remainder of this article, I’ll explain the case for all four of the horses I’ve chosen.
Sun Goddess has danced every dance this season and can cap it off with a Breeders’ Cup success. Even though her career only began in May, she has six wins to her credit, with three of those being in Group 1s, namely the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes, the Moyglare Stud Stakes, and the Cheveley Park Stakes.
Sun Goddess has only been defeated twice. Carry The Flag had the experience edge over her on debut, beating her by just a head. She was then nabbed late by Libertango at Royal Ascot. However, she reversed the form last time out when she defeated Libertango at Newmarket.
Immediately after her Cheveley Park Stakes win, Aidan O’Brien stated that she was very special, and she should get a mile easily. In the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, we’ll find out! With the way she ran through the line in the Moyglare over 7f on Yielding ground, I think she’ll stay the mile, and I think she wins it.
Wesley Ward has described Bacio as the “Fastest horse in the World” and it’s hard to argue with him based on what we saw at Royal Ascot and York. In fairness he was entitled to win the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap at Royal Ascot, as he ran off a mark of 100. However, he went on to demolish a deep field in the Nunthorpe at York.
As well as his general speed, Bacio is lightning fast from the stalls, which is crucial. When the gates open, he is away and gone in an instant. He also has the home advantage here, as Keeneland is where he is based. He has landed stall three for this race, which is a perfect low draw for him. The step up to 5.5f asks a new question, but he was strong through the line at Ascot, so I think he’ll break well and make all.
In her six starts this year, Blue Bolt has come out on top every time. Her unbeaten run includes four consecutive Group 1s, theFalmouth, the Prix Rothschild, the Matron and the Sun Chariot. Her connections had two choices here at the Breeders’ Cup, either the Mile against the boys, or stepping up in trip but racing against her own sex.
With the final declarations made, connections have opted for the latter, indicating that Andrew Balding and Juddmonte don’t see the extra distance at Keeneland being a problem. Blue Bolt has also landed a wide draw, which will give her more time to overcome the extra distance, so I’m confident she can come out on top again.
Last year, Notable Speech travelled over to Del Mar and won this race in fantastic style. He gradually made his way down the inside rail, and when he saw daylight and William Buick asked him to go, he produced an electric turn of foot, quickly putting the race to bed. It was a superb performance and I’m expecting something similar this year.
In April 2026, Charlie Appleby sent Notable Speech over to Keeneland. He was held up in last, but had made steady headway at the half way point. However, he was repeatedly denied a clear run from 2f out, and was hampered just over 1f out. Despite that, he ran on strongly, and finished in fourth place. While it didn't look that way in April, Keeneland is less about draw and position than Del Mar, which gives William Buick full power in the saddle.
Last year, Notable Speech won the Woodbine Mile Stakes, a race that provided a stepping stone for the Breeders’ Cup Mile, which he also won. As the old saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and Charlie Appleby has followed the same path again this year. Notable Speech won at Woodbine last month, having already won at Newbury and York. As such, I see him as the most likely winner of this race.
Whilst I’m sweet on the chances of all four runners, Bacio and Notable Speech are the main two for me. That’s why I’ve played them in a separate double, alongside as well as including both in the fourfold. At 15/4, a 1pt double has the potential to return 4.75pts. That would more than cover our stakes for the double and the fourfold combined. Of course, if the fourfold lands too, we’re laughing.
Bacio has the extra distance to cover and Notable Speech may need to overcome trouble in running, but if both get a smooth race, they’ll take plenty of beating. Sun Goddess really should win,but there are always risks attached to backing two-year-old fillies. For Blue Bolt, she has already had a long campaign, so there are risks attached there too. That’s before factoring in the risks of both horses stepping up in trip.
Ultimately, I feel that 15/4 for the double, and 23.7/1 for the fourfold respectively are great prices. However, a great price means nothing unless they win but I think all four horses have an exceptional chance of doing so. You could easily get carried away with your stakes, but I’m keeping it sensible here with a simple 1pt win bet for the double, and a half point win bet for the fourfold. At the end of the day, this is the best of the best competing and naturally, we’re sure to see many well-fancied favourites beaten across the weekend, but hopefully it’s not our four!
