At this time of year, a lot of All Weather horses that have been campaigned on the Turf are returning to their preferred surface. This can see a lot of well handicapped horses bouncing back to form and I think I have found one flying under the radar at a huge price of 25/1!

The return to Newcastle can bring Pallas Lord back to life!

As the old saying goes, horses for courses and Newcastle is the course for Pallas Lord. I’ll explain why and the other angles for this betting tip in the remainder of today’s article.

Pallas Lord is course specialist

Today’s betting tip - Pallas Lord has been around the block. He has had 79 races in his career to date with 57 on the All Weather and 22 on Turf. He has recorded 12 victories in total with a split of 10 and 2 respectively.

10 of his career wins to date have come at Newcastle (every All Weather win), so he clearly thrives at this track. Overall his record reads 10 wins (18%) and 15 places (45%) from 55 starts. Jason Hart has also been booked to ride and he has a strike rate of 25% (5/20) when riding Pallas Lord. If you strip out the seven runs elsewhere, his Newcastle record on the horse is a very eye-catching 5/13 (38%).

Pallas Lord returns off a mark 5lb below his latest C&D win

On Pallas Lord’s penultimate start here back in February, he was victorious off a mark of 58. His following run was also over this C&D but he received the worst possible draw in stall one, so I can easily forgive him finishing last of 11 that day.

His six runs since have come at Wolverhampton, Hamilton, Carlisle (x2) and Musselburgh (x2) but he now returns to his beloved Newcastle. In his last four runs, his handicap mark has dropped from 60 to just 53 and he now sits dangerously handicapped, 5lb below his last winning mark. Returning to Newcastle off this reduced mark, I think he can bounce back to form.

Pallas Lord can dominate this race from the front

Pallas Lord is a horse that likes to race from the front or at the very least, prominently. Looking through the race, the majority of the field either like to sit midfield or held up in rear. The only two runners who also like to race prominently are Kitaab and Wish This. However, there is no out and out leader here outside of Pallas Lord. I therefore think he could get an easy lead over a C&D that favours horses that lead.

Furthermore, on this straight track at Newcastle, you want to be drawn high, as the stands’ side rail can be a golden highway. Pallas Lord has landed himself stall eight of 10, which looks very good to me. If Jason Hart can break from the stalls quickly and establish a lead, I think he has an excellent chance of making all here. If someone else decides to go forward, I’d have no issue with sitting second or third, as long as he is towards the head of the field.

Can Pallas Lord outrun his 25/1 odds?

I’d be shocked if Pallas Lord doesn’t run better than his current odds suggest. I would also be shocked if this price of 25/1 was to last. When winning on his penultimate start here, he was gambled into 11/4 and whilst he may not go off that short today, it would be no surprise to see him go off much shorter than 25/1.

He loves it here at Newcastle with 10 wins at the track and he is 5lb below his C&D win in February. It looks like the race could set up perfectly for him with a lack of other pace angles and a strong high draw in stall eight. I also like that Jason Hart has been booked to ride with his 25% strike rate on the horse, which increases to 38% at this track.

In terms of negatives for Pallas Lord, he is fully exposed after 79 runs and at the age of eight. He also comes off the back of two runs at Musselburgh following a 114-day break where he only beat one of his 20 rivals home. Therefore, this bet does take a leap of faith on his current form in the expectation that he returns to form on the return to Newcastle.

With so much in his favour and at incredible odds of 25/1, he has to be a bet in my eyes. I also see so much value in that price, that he has to be a strong bet as well, so I’m playing 1pt Each Way here. At 25/1 to win and effectively 5/1 to place (⅕ odds on the each way bet), he looks superb value to me. It may be a shock result for most if he wins, but it wouldn’t shock me at all.
