It’s time for another four horses in a Lucky 15 bet! Every Saturday I check out the ITV Racing action and this weekend it covers The Showcase Meeting at Cheltenham and the Futurity Trophy Weekend at Doncaster.
As the resident horse racing expert here, I publish several free horse racing tips every week, and one of those is a Lucky 15 on Saturdays. The remainder are a combination of daily betting tips and antepost selections. Speaking of daily posts, the article containing my main betting tip for today is already live. Make sure you take a look at that one next!
As I write this article, the best horse racing odds are available at William Hill, where you can get 49,328/1 for today’s Lucky 15. There’s extra value in the place terms too. For the first two races, William Hill is offering 1/4 odds rather than the traditional 1/5. If you don’t have an account there, you can claim a fantastic welcome bonus too. If you bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. As such, William Hill is officially the best bookmaker to use for today’s Lucky 15 bet.
I can make a strong case for each of our four selections today, so I’m pretty gobsmacked that they are available at odds no shorter than 8/1 and as big as 28/1! I can certainly see these four outrunning their odds and in the remainder of this article, I’ll break down why.
There is no two ways about it, the Heavy ground at Doncaster is going to be absolutely attritional today, especially as there is only further rain forecast and the track would have been cut up by yesterday’s action. We know from his penultimate start that Ancient State handles testing conditions and the light weight of just 8st 9lb on his back could be crucial.
We also know Ancient State acts here as he was a C&D winner last month. He also stays further as he showed when second here over 5.5f in August and in his 6f win at Newmarket. In fact, he has run over 7f and even 1m before. This won’t be an ordinary 5f dash and that extra stamina on his side is a big advantage.
Circling back to the penultimate start when he was fourth on Heavy ground at Haydock, the winner - King Of Light opposes him here. However, it is worth noting that Ancient State wouldn’t have been helped by hanging into the centre of the track whereas King Of Light had the rail run. I think Ancient State could well reverse that form.
O’Moore Park has many positives in his favour, and he is also my main betting tip for today. As mentioned earlier on, I’ve published an article that discusses him in depth, which is already live. So rather than going over the same ground again here, you can check that one out instead.
The third leg of our Lucky 15 is Bold Endeavour, who is firmly in the Veteran stage of his career now at the ripe old age of 10 and nearing 11. His new connections evidently don’t believe he is over the hill yet, as they paid £23,000 for him at the Goffs UK Spring sales in May 2026.
Bold Endeavour has had five runs here at Cheltenham with form figures produced of 52247 off handicap marks of 140, 139, 142, 143 and 130. The first, fourth and fifth runs all came at the Cheltenham Festival - 2023, 2024 and 2026 respectively. The latter two runs actually came in the Final of this Pertemps series.
In the 2024 final, he finished fourth, beaten less than four lengths off a 23lb higher mark than the one he’ll race off today. Even the 2026 seventh, beaten less than eight lengths, came off a 10lb higher mark than today’s. If he’s in the mood here, he’s capable of running a huge race and the “Win And You’re In” spot for the final on offer here could be crucial for him off this mark. Realistically, a qualification here through placing won’t be enough to see him get a run off his current mark of 119.
Our final horse - Moon d’Orange has some fantastic course form in the book. That form includes placing in Grade 2 company over hurdles, winning a Premier Handicap over fences off 4lb higher and placing in the Plate Handicap Chase at this year’s Cheltenham Festival.
All three of Moon d’Orange’s career wins have come over intermediate trips of 2m 4.5f to 2m 6f, where he benefits from having a strong pace to aim at. He is 0/11 over 2m 7f+ with a mixed bag of efforts leaving it debatable as to whether he stays these longer trips or not. On the plus side, he is now trained by the right man in Christian Williams, as he is a master of staying chases.
I think Moon d’Orange could stay the 3m 1f trip today, providing he is nicely covered up throughout the race before challenging late. Jack Tudor knows how to pull off those patient tactics and hopefully he can do exactly that here for us. If he gets up the hill strongly, I think he could be coming home in front off this dangerous mark of 125.
Each of the four horses contained with this bet have questions to answer. Can Ancient State defy his current mark and reverse the form with King Of Light? Can O’Moore Park finally break his maiden tag over fences? Does Bold Endeavour still have the ability at his ripe old age? Can Moon d’Orange stay the longer trip?
All of these questions mean that we have some tasty prices varying from 8/1 through to 28/1. However, I’m quietly confident that each of the selections can answer the questions being asked of them and if so, we could be in for a fantastic return here.
At the prices, I’d take four places as that would pay handsomely enough. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if any of these four caused an upset in their respective races.
