With the ITV Racing coverage showing the action from both Sandown and Goodwood this Saturday, that is where we head for our Lucky 15 selections! I think I have landed on four horses with great chances and one is currently priced at 28/1!
As the resident horse racing expert here IÂ provide free horse racing tips most days. However, each Saturday I produce one of these Lucky 15 articles. On the betting tip front, I also provide antepost selections here too. There is plenty of content away from betting articles though and these include both horses and trainers to follow each month, big race trends and educational guides.
In terms of the antepost selections, be sure to check out my early selections for both the Champion Chase and the Gold Cup at the 2027 Cheltenham Festival. In respect of the daily betting tips, I’ll have one being published Saturday morning for you, so be sure to check that one out too!
At the time of writing, the best horse racing odds for these four selections come from Betway. They are offering combined odds on the four fold of 2,282/1! As well as the great value on the prices, they have a superb new customer offer. If you bet £10, you’ll get £40 in free bets. What a fantastic deal!.
I like this week’s mix of selections in the Lucky 15. We have really solid contenders in Tall Trees and Zavateri at 11/4 and 2/1 respectively. We then have Rhoscolyn at 6/1 and that price could collapse if the rain comes as expected. Finally, we have Flying Frontier as our big priced outsider for the bet at 28/1, where I feel he is completely underestimated. In the rest of this article, I’ll break down my reasoning behind each of the horses selected, so make sure you keep reading on.
We kick the Lucky 15 off over at Sandown in their 7f Maiden Fillies’ Stakes worth a fantastic £40,000. Of the horses with previous form (of which there are four), Tall Trees arguably has as good a form as anybody. It’s at least on par with the market favourite here, Thi Qar.
Ultimately, we are guessing at the ability level of the five unraced horses who line up here. However, whilst they could be very smart and likely will be given they have been targeted at this valuable race and some represent powerful connections, their lack of experience could cost them here.
Tall Trees has progressed with every run to date, was unlucky the last day with how the race unfolded and with natural progression, she could take some stopping here. I certainly think she’ll be involved at the finish at the very least and I would be disappointed if she wasn’t.
In the 7f Handicap at Goodwood worth a mouthwatering £100,000, I’m siding with Rhoscolyn for David O’Meara. Rhoscolyn is a simple beast, he turns up once or twice a year, at Goodwood and with juice in the ground. In terms of how soft he wants the ground, the wetter the better!
He is now a six time winner here at Goodwood and the last two wins have come on Heavy and Soft off marks of 97 and 96. With a very dry summer, he’s been unable to show his best and as a result, he’s become incredibly well handicapped. He now sits dangerously on a mark of just 84, which is 12lb below his latest win.
The key to his chance here is the going. It is currently Good to Firm, Good in places at Goodwood but they have watered. Furthermore and crucially, they are expecting some light rain this evening, followed by 11mm tomorrow. If that rain comes down and gets into the ground, Rhoscolyn will bounce back to life! I’ll be doing my rain dance..!
We switch back to Sandown for the third leg and the selection runs in the 1m 2f Handicap. Whilst Kokbastau could be a Group horse in a handicap, at the prices, I’m taking him on with the 6-year-old - Flying Frontier. They tried him over 1m4f last time out and he didn’t stay, so I’d draw a line straight through that performance.
If you look back at his penultimate run, he was fourth, beaten four lengths over this C&D off a mark of 94. The quick ground meant that front runners were favoured, so he wasn’t suited by the way it played out. With easier underfoot conditions and a 3lb lower mark, he is massively underestimated here at 28/1!
He is a two time winner over C&D off marks of 93 and 95, which are 2lb and 4lb higher than his current mark. In fact, the prior win came in this exact race two years ago, so he knows how to win this. The first time cheekpieces added should only aid him too.
We conclude the Lucky 15 back at Goodwood in the Celebration Mile Stakes (Group 2) at 15:10. I was sweet on the chances of Zavateri in last weekend’s City Of York Stakes (Group 1). However, he rather got lost in the middle of the race before staying on well to just be denied fourth by a head, finishing fifth.
He steps up in trip from 7f to 1m here and also down in grade from Group 1 to a Group 2, both of which should make life easier for him. On his penultimate start in the Sussex Stakes, he finished 1.5 half lengths behind Ten Bob Tony and at York, he finished just a head behind him, which is progress.
I feel he’s been progressing throughout the season and now between that and these calmer waters, he should oblige here. I could foresee a big performance here, which could throw his name in the hat for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot, for which he is currently 33/1 (I wouldn’t put you off!).
As always, our horses have questions to answer, with some bigger than others: -
I think these selections have a great chance of silencing their doubters. Although, Rhoscolyn’s chance relies more on the weather gods than ability and lady luck! I will be doing my rain dance and hopefully it works for him!
