It’s Saturday and not just any Saturday either, this one is filled with Group 1 action, tasty Handicaps and the return of Constitution Hill. For today’s Lucky 15 I’ve found one in a Group 3, and the other three horses run in Handicaps.

here every week. They are usually daily selections, but I also post antepost picks, and put together a Lucky 15 on Saturdays. I also write a range of non-tipping content like horses and trainers to follow, big race trends and educational guides. Basically, there’s something for everyone.

Four horses for you at each way prices!
With today’s four horses priced between 5/1 and 12/1, I think I have found the ideal balance for a Lucky 15. All four horses have a solid chance but there is still plenty of juice in their prices. In the remainder of this article, I’ll break down the case for each one of them.
Persica @ 5/1 - Group 3 is his level and he enjoys softer ground!
After winning Handicaps off marks of 86, 92 and 100, Persica propelled himself into pattern races and has stayed there ever since. Although he ran well to finish fifth in a Group 1 over in Munich, I believe Group 3 is more his level. If you isolate his form to Group 3 races only, his form figures are 3311423 and it’s worth noting that he was only beaten by a nose in his second placed finish.
That is rock solid form and makes him a perfect candidate for our Lucky 15. We know he enjoys a bit of give in the ground, and hopefully the current Heavy going isn’t too much for him. But even if he doesn’t thrive, he should handle it better than most. The fact that he stays further than the 1m trip is also a bonus.
Two Tribes @ 11/2 - A C&D winner whose jockey rides Ascot well!
Two Tribes won over C&D back in July last year. Interestingly, he beat Classic into second place off level weights, and that one ran a cracker here off a 10lb higher mark yesterday. If you limit Two Tribes’ form figures to C&D only, they read 152. It’s also noteworthy that he was only beaten by 3.75 lengths when he came fifth. Especially considering the race was on soft ground and he was hampered at the business end.
He does have a tough mark of 103 to contend with, but he was in career best form over C&D when second by 1.25 lengths three runs back. He needs to find a bit more today, but I believe he can, especially with Saffie Osborne on board, as she rides Ascot exceptionally well. This year, she is 7/34 at Ascot, with 15/34 finishing in the first four. Her Ascot form was further emphasised yesterday with wins on Malachy’s Wish and Hickory.
Two Tempting @ 12/1 - He can enhance his exceptional C&D record!
At double figure odds, Two Tempting was indeed too tempting to ignore! He is a horse that seems to thrive at Kempton with C&D form of 1422148. His latest win was off a mark of 96, and if he can replicate the RPR 106 he recorded that day, he has a great chance, and will surely be involved at the finish.
I’m sure his connections have had this valuable series final on their radar for some time. Given his record at the track and with two runs under his belt, he should be cherry ripe for this race, and he only competes off 2lb higher than his last win here. Rob Hornby takes the ride for Jonathan Portman, and considering the partnership has seen 58/106 (55%) hit the first four, Rob Hornby is an interesting booking.
Stressfree @ 7/1 - He can go two better than last year’s race!
David O’Meara’s Stressfree finished third in the Old Borough Cup Handicap last year, beaten by just 1.5 lengths. That was a huge performance off a mark of 102 and he was giving 4lb and 13lb to the two horses that beat him. Today he returns for another crack, but this time he is running off a 5lb lower mark, which must give him every chance.
Last time out, Stressfree ran a huge race to finish sixth in the Ebor Handicap at York, which is the richest Handicap race in Europe. He ran there off a mark of 99, but he will race off a 2lb lower mark of 97 today. Interestingly, his latest win came in May last year, at this track, and off the same mark. Albeit that was over 1m 4f rather than today’s trip of 1m6f. Like our other Haydock selection - Persica, he handles Heavy ground with one win and one place from four starts on it, so that is a huge positive too.
Can we beat last week’s two winners?
Last Saturday two of our Lucky 15 horses, Tall Trees and Zavateri, won their races. Can we beat two winners this week? I hope so! The Haydock card could be a bit of a minefield on Heavy going, especially after two days of racing have already taken place there. However, if any horses are going to handle the conditions, it will be Persica and Stressfree, who are both versatile.
Two Tribes and Two Tempting have tough marks to overcome, but both are proven at their respective courses, and hopefully they will run huge races for us. Obviously the ideal scenario is to have four winners, but just four places would bring us a decent return. The key is just to make sure they’re horses that will be hitting the frame!
