We head back to Cheltenham today for the second day of The Showcase Meeting. We are in a fantastic position this week, as we have a healthy profit thanks to Kennington winning for us at 16/1 at Newmarket on Thursday. I think today's 22/1 shot could add more to our pot!
If you’re just finding my content, then welcome aboard! My name is Gav but I’m better known as RacingGav here, and over on X. I’m the resident horse racing expert for Betting.co.uk, and I have been providing free horse racing tips since March 2025 with great success.
As we’re on the topic of Cheltenham already, be sure to check out my antepost selections for the 2027 Cheltenham Festival. In particular, my selection for the Stayers' Hurdle remains available at 16/1. Whilse his price has shortened from the original 18/1 advised, there is still more than enough value in that price to get involved now.
At the time of writing, the best horse racing odds of 22/1 are only available with bet365! Therefore, if you want the best price, bet365 is the bookmaker to back O’Moore Park with. If you don’t currently bet with them, you can also access the welcome offer they have for new customers. If you sign up and bet £10 you’ll get £30 of free bets. Why not take advantage of the huge value on offer.
We enjoyed the Cesarewitch Handicap winner at 20/1, then hit another one this week with Kennington at 16/1. I’m now on the hunt for a hat-trick of big winners with today’s 22/1 shot, O’Moore Park. In this article, I’ll explain why I think he’ll outrun his odds!
In this Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase, most of the runners have limited to no experience over fences due to the nature of the race. Cheltenham is not an easy track to jump around, so for some, that lack of experience could be their downfall. In complete contrast, O’Moore Park has tons of experience over fences with 14 starts over the larger obstacles.
Likewise for plenty of these contenders, this would have been the highest quality race they have ever run in. Again, O’Moore Park is the complete opposite here, with lots of races at higher levels under his belt. He has amassed form in many top handicaps including running big races in two Cheltenham Festival handicaps, an Aintree Grand National day handicap and finishing fifth in the Paddy Power Chase (Listed Race) over in Ireland.
As touched upon in that last section, O’Moore Park has some fantastic form at Cheltenham. In his three runs here, he has produced form figures of 326 with the first and third of those runs being at the 2025 and 2026 Cheltenham Festivals, respectively. The second run was in the Silver Trophy here in April 2025, where he was denied by less than a length when keeping on.
From his second run under Rules to his second last, he was trained by Willie Mullins at Closutton. However, Rich Ricci sold him in June, and Martin Keighley picked him up for £66,000. Martin has a fantastic record at this time of year, and at this particular meeting, with Cheltenham being his local track. Coming here he had a 20% strike rate going back to 2021 and at £1 level stakes, he was +£42.50. He enhanced that record yesterday with Continuance winning for him, and hopefully O’Moore Park can further that record today.
Knowing that Martin Keighley targets this meeting, I find it very interesting that he gave O’Moore Park a spin around Uttoxeter earlier this month over an inadequate 2m trip. That looks like a run to blow away the cobwebs after a 148-day break, knock any freshness out of him and bring his handicap mark down a little with today in mind. The latter certainly worked, as the handicapper reduced his mark from 137 to 134.
For some context, his three prior Cheltenham runs came off handicap marks of 140, 140 and 141, producing RPRs of 142, 143 and 140. If he was to reproduce that level of form off this reduced mark, he must have a fantastic chance today. Especially with Champion Jockey - Sean Bowen booked to ride, who has a record of 59/318 (19%) for Martin Keighley with 139/318 (44%) finishing in the first three. To ÂŁ1 level stakes, the pair team up for an impressive profit of +ÂŁ31.22.
As you can see, a fantastic case can be made for O’Moore Park today, certainly a far better one than his odds of 22/1 suggest. He has tons of experience and class, which is a huge advantage over his rivals here. He also has strong course form as does his trainer - Martin Keighley who enjoys great success at this meeting. He is race fit, handicapped to strike and has the Champion Jockey in the saddle, so you couldn’t ask for much more.
There are some negatives that have to be considered though. The obvious one is that he is 0/14 over fences and just 1/21 in his career in rules races to date, which is a worry. Likewise, Rich Ricci was happy to sell him and he has left Willie Mullins. His last two runs have also been poor, even if he does have excuses for them, so he has to prove he can bounce back. I’d also have one eye on the weather as I’d prefer Good or Good to Soft ground for him rather than properly soft ground, even more so with 11st 10lb to carry and there is further rain forecast.
Having considered all of the positives and negatives, I do feel he has to be a bet at the current odds of 22/1. This is the same price that he was sent off for the Plate Handicap Chase at this year’s Cheltenham Festival, which would have taken far more winning and for which he was rated 7lb higher. However, given the negatives highlighted, I have trimmed the stake down to 0.75pt Each Way. With the volume and depth of the negatives, perhaps this should be 0.5pt Each Way but I feel there is so much value in the 22/1 available, I’m reluctant to reduce down further from 0.75pt Each Way.
