Thunderous Love can record her first win of 2026 here!
Despite starting the year on a tough mark, Thunderous Love should have scored in 2026 by now. There have been at least two races where she should have come out on top but it didn’t fall her way. Today the stars look aligned for her to produce a big performance and I think she can win this race. In the rest of this article, I’ll be explaining why!
Thunderous Love has a fantastic record at Nottingham
Certain horses suit certain courses and therefore a strong course record always has to be respected. Thunderous Love certainly ticks that box at Nottingham with form figures produced here of 13122. That is two wins and three places from five runs here, never finishing out of the first three and that has to be greatly respected.
All five of those runs have come over today’s 6f trip and when racing on either Good or Good to Firm ground. Therefore today’s 6f trip and an official going description at the time of writing of Good, Good to FIrm in places looks perfect for her. Especially with the forecast being a sunny one, where it should only dry out further.
Thunderous Love is handicapped to strike here
If you look through the form of Thunderous Love, she has recorded six handicap victories to date. These wins have come off marks of 54, 54, 58, 61, 63 and 70. Therefore, racing off a mark of 62 today, she is 8lb below her last winning mark and also above the prior win too. In September last year, she even finished second off a mark of 73, which is 9lb higher than today’s mark.
As a result of winning five races last season, her handicap mark rocketed 20lb from 54 to 74. The price of that success is that she subsequently found it hard work in the early stages of this season. However, she is now handicapped to strike once again off this reduced mark of 62. I think her big day could be here at Nottingham today but if not, it feels like her day will come very soon.
Thunderous Love has the top course jockey in the saddle
If you’re trying to win at Nottingham, then there is no better man for the job than Rob Hornby statistically speaking. For the last five years, he has been the top jockey at the track with a record of 23/112, a strike rate of 20.5%, and a profit to £1 level stakes of +£49.38. This season alone, he is 4/20 (20%) and shares the top spot at the track with Ray Dawson.
As well as having the course form, Rob Hornby also knows Thunderous Love very well. He has recorded three wins, three seconds and one third from twenty rides on the mare. I’d personally argue that he should have won here at Nottingham three starts back, when beaten a neck after kicking for home too soon (in my opinion). After suffering a painful defeat that day, I’m sure Rob Hornby will be keen to right that wrong and make it up to her connections.
Can Thunderous Love return to winning ways?
As you can see, there are an abundance of positives for Thunderous Love. She has a fantastic record here at Nottingham, as does her jockey - Rob Hornby. She is also handicapped to strike now after starting the season on a tough mark. In addition to the points already raised, she also has a lovely low draw in stall two today as well, which only enhances her chances.
In terms of negatives, Thunderous Love is on a losing run of 13 races with 0/10 in 2026. As such she needs to prove she's still got what it takes to get her head in front. Rob Hornby is also on a nine race losing streak when riding her. As covered already, I didn’t rate his ride on her back in August when denied by a neck, so he has questions to answer as well.
Taking all of the positive and negative points into consideration, I do still think that she is underestimated and overpriced at odds of 10/1. In her five starts at this track, she has gone off at odds of 6/1, 9/2, 11/4, 100/30 and 15/8F but despite that and her strong form, she is available at a double figure price here! She certainly warrants a solid bet in my eyes but given the negatives, I have trimmed the stake down slightly to 0.75pt each way.
