I’m back today with another free horse racing tip! Unfortunately yesterday’s betting tip was a very frustrating watch, as he was never put in the race, nor were three of the others in the six-runner field. At this time of year, such occurrences are fairly common, with trainers using races to bring their horses forward, rather than to compete.
For those not familiar, I provide several articles per week with the majority of them being daily betting tips like this one. However, there is a wide range of content provided with more betting tips, including antepost selections, and Lucky 15s.
Away from tipping, I also publish big race trends, educational guides and horses and trainers to follow. Speaking of the latter, my article containing a selection of UK National Hunt trainers to follow in October 2026 is already live.
As I write this article, the best horse racing odds of 17/2 for Little Dorrit come from BetMGM. The value doesn’t end there either, as there’s also a generous welcome offer for new customers. If you bet £10 you’ll get £40 of free bets. Make sure you check this deal out if you’re planning to bet on Little Dorrit today.
For fillies and mares, it’s extremely important to land black type if you can, with their future sale and/or broodmare careers in mind. For those not familiar, a black-type mare is one that has placed in the first three in Pattern races (Listed or Group races). If they can achieve it, the form is written in bold type on their sales page and pedigree reports, which enhances their value. I think Little Dorrit can secure that today and hopefully she can win the race too! In the rest of this article, I’ll break down my reasoning.
With a simple glance at the form book, Little Dorrit has won a Class 5 Novice Stakes on the All Weather at Kempton and failed to finish in the first three in any of her six other starts. However, that doesn’t tell the full story of her career.
On her third start, in Listed company at York, she was both still learning and short of room. She should have finished closer than fifth and was beaten by less than three lengths. On her next start at Doncaster she finished fourth, but it was a tight four-way battle, where she was only beaten by a head. She also showed promise in both starts this season, despite finishing fifth and fourth.
One common theme in Little Dorrit’s races is that she can seem to get outpaced before powering home in great style. Sadly for her, she’s often finding that big finish too late, which is why she has been failing to get her head in front since her win at Kempton.
Today, Roger Varian steps her up to 1m 6f and I think she will relish the extra distance. The slower tempo of the race should allow her to travel more comfortably through the race and it also gives her more time to showcase her power-packed finish. Alternatively, with the lesser pace, she might well be ridden more aggressively.
The other factor that I think will really suit her today is the stiff uphill finish that they face at Bath. Horses can get racing a long way out at Bath and many subsequently fail to get up the hill. However, she hasn’t got the easiest draw today, as she’ll race wide from stall 12.
With the tenacious attitude of Little Dorrit, I think she can overcome her less-than-ideal draw, and by the time they get to that hill she'll really dig in. Whether by passing from horses deeper in the field, or slipping them round the bend and trying to last in front.
There’s plenty to like about Little Dorrit at Bath today. I think her form is stronger than it looks on paper, and although she has 7lb to find with the favourite on official ratings, on form, it’s more like a couple of pounds at most. I’m also expecting the step up from 1m 4f to 1m 6f to unlock more from her, which bodes well. I also think she’ll cope well with the testing finish at Bath, whereas others may struggle at the business end.
In terms of negatives, Little Dorrit does have 7lb to find with the favourite, Brilliant Star, but the latter is open to further improvement herself. Also, while I expect Little Dorrit to improve for the longer trip, she still has to prove that she stays this far. Finally, her draw isn’t the kindest as she is out wide in stall 12 today.
After considering all of the pros and cons, I feel Little Dorrit is worth a bet at 17/2, which underestimates her chance here. However, taking into account the negatives, I’m only playing half stakes on this one.
