We had huge value for yesterday’s bet. I advised Percival at 8/1 and he went off as 3/1 favourite. I saw him as touch as short as 15/8 at one point, and he may have even gone shorter. However, on this occasion the value counted for nothing, as he was given a poor ride. James Doyle was suckered in by Tom Marquand's overly strong fractions, and did far too much too soon!

Thunderous Love deserves to get her head in front!

I think Thunderous Love is overdue a win, and that might change today. In the remainder of this article, I’ll break down the reasons why, so make sure you keep reading.

Thunderous Love should have won her last two Turf starts

In late July, Thunderous Love headed to Salisbury with 5lb claimer Olivia Tubbs on board. Unfortunately, Olivia’s inexperience proved costly that day, as she kicked for home with two and half furlongs to run, which was simply too soon. Although Thunderous Love managed to stay in front for a while, she was mown down towards the finish. If Olivia had kept her covered up, or at least held onto her for longer, I feel she could have won.

Thunderous Love headed to Nottingham next. She was ridden by Rob Hornby this time, and pressed the leader looking a huge threat. However, Rob decided to make his challenge on the left hand side of Sugar Sugar, who is known to hang left quite badly. Consequently Thunderous Love was carried left from 1f out, and the ground she lost as a result was far greater than the neck margin she was beaten by would suggest.

After two very unfortunate races, trainer Jonathan Portman switched Thunderous Love to the All Weather at Southwell at the end of last month. She has raced six times on All Weather, and her peak effort is still more than a stone below her best effort on Turf, based on the RPRs recorded.

This time was no different, as she barely travelled a yard and ended up beaten by almost 10 lengths, finishing ninth of 12 runners. Given her poor previous form on All Weather, I’d draw a line straight through that performance, and judge her on her previous Turf efforts instead.

Thunderous Love’s last two wins were both off higher marks

In 2025, Thunderous Love won five times, off handicap marks of 54, 58, 61, 63 and 70, so she seriously climbed through the ranks. Subsequently, she ended up racing off a career high mark of 74, which stopped her winning streak. To date, she has yet to resume it.

However, she has now dropped back to a mark of 62. This is the same handicap mark she was on when she should have won the two Turf starts already discussed. She was put up 1lb for those efforts, but after her latest AW run, she is back down to 62 again. She is certainly capable of winning off this mark, and hopefully that is exactly what we’ll see happen today.

Can Thunderous Love land her first win of 2026?

You can build a strong case for Thunderous Love at Yarmouth today. She should have won her last two races on Turf, and she had an obvious excuse for her poor effort on All Weather. With her last two wins coming off higher marks, and the level of performance produced on her last two turf starts, we know she can win off her current mark of 62.

In terms of negatives, she is now on a 12-race losing streak. However, she had excuses for several, and finished second in three of them, beaten by less than a length in each, so she hasn’t been in bad form. However, she does need to prove she can bounce back from her poor run on All Weather last time. But with all facts taken into account, I think she is a fantastic each way bet at 7/1, and with four places on offer, I think she warrants a strong 1pt each way stake.
