Here comes my first

for the week! But before we get into that, it was great to hit a couple of winners in
Saturday’s Lucky 15
with Tall Trees winning in gutsy fashion, and Zavateri bolting up to land the Group 2 Celebration Mile Stakes. I flagged Zavateri at 33/1 for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot, and now he’s priced at no more than 10/1.

I have faith in Dandy’s Angel!
Dandy’s Angel is a nine-year-old mare. She hasn’t won a race since July 2025 and consequently her handicap mark has dropped considerably. Many will have given up on her, but I think today could be her day to shine again. In the rest of this article, I’ll explain why I think that’s the case.
Dandy’s Angel is very well handicapped
Dandy’s Angel has won 11 times during her racing career. Her three highest-rated wins came off marks of 64, 61 and 62, with the latter being her most recent win in July last year.
After a relatively long spell in the doldrums, she plummeted to a mark of just 46, and even running off 1lb higher here at a mark of 47, she is very dangerously handicapped on her best form. Basically, if she puts her best foot forward, she is more than capable of winning this Class 6 (0-60) Handicap.
Dandy’s Angel has already proven herself at this track
With 11 runs at Hamilton, Dandy’s Angel knows this track well. Although only one has resulted in a win, a further six have seen her hit the places. In fact, in seven of her 11 races here (64%) have seen her finish in the first three, which is a serious record.
I’ll talk more about today's trip in the next section, but if you limit her form figures at Hamilton to races over a distance of 1m 3f to 1m 4f they read 431033. The duck egg in the middle of that form is easily forgivable, as it was simply an anomaly. If you look more closely at that run, she was sent off 50/1 which suggests that connections didn’t have high expectations, and jockey Tom Kiely-Marshall stated afterwards that she ran flat that day.
The trip and going is perfect for Dandy’s Angel
During her career Dandy’s Angel has run over distances from 7f to 1m 4f. Of the 11 wins she has recorded, eight of those were over distances of 1m 2f or 1m 3f, but she also achieved a third place here at Hamilton over 1m 4f last June. However, I believe 1m 3f seems to be her optimum.
In terms of going, I have always thought Dandy’s Angel is at her best when there is some juice in the ground. However, she has shown versatility with wins on everything from Good to Firm through to Heavy. Her record on either Soft or Heavy going is six wins and six places from 20 starts. That is a very healthy 30% strike rate and a 60% place rate. Today, she runs over 1m 3f on Soft ground, which presents the perfect scenario for Dandy’s Angel and combined with her reduced mark, we should see a big performance from her today.
I also find it interesting that trainer John Wainwright has booked Connor Beasley to ride. He hasn’t ridden Dandy’s Angel before, but he has already clocked up one win from just two starts for the yard.
There is a lot to like about Dandy’s Angel’s at Hamilton today. She has become very well handicapped, she is proven at Hamilton and she should love the Soft ground. With everything in place, I think she can run a massive race.
In terms of negatives, she hasn’t won a race since July 2025 and she isn’t getting any younger at nine. Sometimes mares can sour as they get older, but I hope that is not the case.
Overall, I think she is overpriced at 12/1. I don’t think the extremely dry summer has suited her at all. Now the rain has come, she is so well handicapped that she could have a very productive Autumn ahead. However, given that she does need to bounce back to formI have trimmed the stake down to 0.75pt each way.
