It’s time for the first of my free horse racing tips for this week! For this one, we head to Worcester and specifically to the 2m 4f Novices’ Handicap Chase. I think there is a horse lurking in this field that will be a class above his rivals and he’s available at 7/2!
If you’re new to Betting.co.uk, welcome! I’m RacingGav and I’m the resident horse racing expert here. Within my role, I publish several articles each week. Most are betting tips, but I also post non-tipping content too.
In terms of tips, you’ll find daily selections, antepost picks, and a Lucky 15 for the ITV Racing action on Saturdays. My other articles include horses and trainers to follow, plus big race trends, and educational guides. I published my guide on trainers to follow in October 2026 yesterday, so be sure to check that out if you haven’t already!
At the time of writing, the best horse racing odds for Draco Malfoy are 7/2, which is widely available across the market. So rather than my bookie pick being based purely on the odds, I’m going to recommend one of our lesser-known brands to you, which is LuckyMate. Sign up now and you'll find a handy new customer offer. If you bet £10 you’ll get a £10 free bet.
Terrible pun, I know, but it was there for the taking! Joking aside, the bet is a serious one and I think Draco Malfoy will take some beating at Worcester today. In this article, I’ll break down the key reasons why I think that's the case.
Like many of Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls’ horses, Draco Malfoy has screamed Staying Chaser in the making all of his career. He won his second Point-To-Point back in April 2024, but has been steadily developed in Bumpers and over Hurdles since then. However, he finally makes the switch to Chasing now, and I think he’ll love it.
He'll most likely be racing over three miles or more in time, but I see no harm in starting him over 2m 4f. He showed he has gears by winning at Huntingdon and Hereford over Hurdles, both of which are sharp tracks. Based on that, he should have no issues over 2m 4f around Worcester's galloping track.
After producing form figures of 121 in Maiden and Novice Hurdles last season, the handicapper gave him an opening mark of 125. At that point, I think anything he achieved would have been a bonus for Kim and Mat. Like I said, I think his future lies over fences and staying trips, but until now he has been a project.
However, after an eight place finish in the Grade 3 EBF Final at Sandown, then being pulled up at Ayr, his handicap mark has conveniently dropped from 125Â to 121. Off that mark, he can sneak into the top of this 0-120 Handicap, which is open to horses rated 121 and 122. Despite that he will carry 12st 1lb, I think he can outsmart his Class 4 rivals here.
As this is Draco Malfoy's first time over fences, and his first run of the season, there is some risk attached. However, it is worth noting that he won first time out last season off the back of a 304-day break, so they can evidently get him fit at home. As such, that removes a lot of the usual risk in terms of it being his first race of the season.
This will also be his Chase debut, but I’m sure Kim and Mat will have done plenty of schooling, and he’ll be well versed in how to tackle the larger obstacles already. I can well imagine that he took to fences like a duck to water. The yard also tend to hit the ground running in the early part of the season, and they have already recorded one winner and one second from just two runners in October, which suggests it’ll be much the same in their 2026/27 campaign.
As you can see, the stage is set for Draco Malfoy to kick off his Chasing career with a bang, or should I say an Alakazam! I think he’ll relish this switch to fences, he should be too strong for these lesser rivals, and he’s already proven himself when fresh from a break.
Playing devil’s advocate here, we are gambling on his fitness first time out. I also think he'll be better over further in time, as I view him as a staying chaser long term. Lastly, he does have to carry 12st 1lb here, which is not an easy task, and any chinks in his fitness will be exposed.
After considering all of the positives and negatives for Draco Malfoy, I think he is well worth a bet at 7/2. I see him as the one to beat here, and despite some negatives, I’m advising a 1pt Win bet. If we knew for certain that he was fully tuned up for this, I’d be looking to stake higher, but it could just be his first day at school over fences and viewed as a stepping stone, so I’m not getting too carried away.
