I have a cracker of a betting tip for you today, and this one is available at fantastic odds of 25/1! If you’re new here, I’m the resident horse racing expert here atBetting.co.uk. I mostly publish free horse racing tips, either daily or antepos, plus a Lucky 15 every Saturday. I also post plenty of non-tipping related content too, including educational guides, horses and trainers to follow and big race trends.
One of my antepost picks runs at the end of this month in the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket. If you missed it the first time around, make sure that you check it out when you’ve finished reading this article. The 33/1 price I advised at the time is long gone, but you can still get a tasty price of 16/1, so my selection is still well worth backing!
As I write this article, the best horse racing odds of 25/1 are available at BetMGM, which is a big price. However, the value doesn’t stop with the odds, as BetMGM also has a fantastic new customer offer. If sign up and bet £10 you’ll get £40 of free bets. Such phenomenal value makes BetMGM stand out from the crowd.
I am shocked to see Epidavros available at 25/1. There are plenty of reasons to believe that she will outrun her odds and in this article, I’ll break down the key factors.
The most obvious angle for Epidavros is that she has already been there and got the T-shirt. She won the 2024 renewal of this race, then went to Hamilton, and won again.
Both races came with juice in the ground, with the former on Soft and the latter on Good to Soft. That’s especially interesting as the official going description for today’s race is Good to Soft, Good in places.
Epidavros won this race in 2024 off a handicap mark of 67, producing a RPR of 76. As mentioned, she followed up with another win at Hamilton off a 4lb higher mark of 71, producing a RPR of 78.
Epidavros has three runs over C&D on her record, with form figures of 153, with her win off a mark of 67. Her two other runs saw her defeated by 1.75 lengths off a mark of 72, and 1.5 lengths off a mark of 69, respectively. The second of those races was in June this year, so off a reduced handicap mark of just 64, she’s clearly handicapped to win today.
Trainers are very often creatures of habit and like to target the same races. As such, it always catches my attention when horses compete in races they have won previously. Sometimes it can just be coincidence, but I often see factors that suggest it was a long term plan for the horse and/or that they will be trying their best.
There are two very evident factors that tick this box today. Firstly, trainer Katie Scott is putting first time blinkers on Epidavros. Secondly, she has booked a top jockey to ride, in the form of Ray Dawson. I don’t think that Katie would be booking a jockey of Ray’s calibre unless she anticipated a big run from Epidavros today.
I like Epidavros a lot, but the bookmakers have her priced at 25/1, so it’s safe to say they don’t! Only one of us can be right, but who will it be? For me, there are more than enough positives to suggest that she should be a lot shorter. Epidavros has won this race before, so she is proven over C&D. Her other C&D form, with some as recent as June, proves that wasn’t a fluke performance. The first time blinkers and jockey booking further suggest that Epidavros is expected to put on a big performance today.
In terms of negatives, she has gone nearly two years without a win and her overall record of just 2/29 is far from attractive. Furthermore, Katie is 0/12 with her runners in the last 14 days. I’m also slightly concerned that the ground is Good to Soft, Good in places, with no further rain expected, so there is a risk it could dry out before the race. However, despite the negatives, I think 25/1 is far too big a price for Epidavros. As a result, I’m sticking my neck out and having a full 1pt each way bet today.
Bookmakers are in fierce competition for your business. As a result, they are all trying to gain your attention by offering fantastic deals to new customers. Here are five of the best betting offers for horse racing currently available. They are well worth exploring, so take a look!
