The Premier League returns this weekend, with players returning from international duty and teams looking to pick up their first victory of the campaign. For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important clash between Leeds United and Liverpool at Elland Road.
Leeds United had an impressive first year in the Premier League but are yet to register their first win of the 2021/22 season. They were heavily beaten on the opening day by Manchester United, and back-to-back draws with Everton and Burnley mean Marcelo Bielsa’s side sit 15th in the Premier League table.
Leeds United have three player personnel concerns ahead of Sunday’s game with Liverpool. Both Mateusz Klich and new signing Junior Firpo tested positive for COVID pre-break so there is a doubt in terms of fitness. Similarly, Robin Koch was nursing a hip issue before the international break and may not feature.
Whilst Leeds United are yet to win, Liverpool are yet to lose this Premier League season after three match days. They comfortably beat both Norwich and Burnley without conceding a goal during the first two weeks. However, before the international break, Liverpool struggled to capitalise against 10-man Chelsea and only earned a point at Anfield.
Much like Leeds, Liverpool have a few injury concerns of their own. James Milner, Harvey Elliott, Takumi Minamino, and Neco Williams all have a 50% chance of featuring due to nagging injuries that they have suffered. Striker Roberto Firmino is unlikely to feature after he was taken off during the Chelsea game with a hamstring problem.
These two served up a classic when they first met last season. Liverpool won 4-3 at Anfield, but Leeds United did earn a point when the two met at Elland Road in the reverse fixture.
Both teams had quiet summer transfer windows, but the circumstances are very different. Liverpool are unbeaten in 10 against their Yorkshire opponents but they will be visiting a packed Elland Road for the first time since 2009.
Both managers' philosophies always ensure goals and that is proven by both teams scoring in five out of the last seven encounters. Liverpool haven’t failed to score since March 2021 against Fulham in the Premier League, and Leeds United have scored in seven consecutive matches in England’s top flight.
We’re predicting a double chance with Liverpool or draw and both teams to score at 5/6 with 888Sport.
