For the first time this season, the Premier League teams enter the FA Cup at the third round stage. For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important all-Premier League tie in the FA Cup between Leicester City and Watford at the King Power Stadium.
Leicester are entering the FA Cup as the reigning champions of England’s most prestigious cup competition. They defeated Manchester City in the final last year, but they don’t look like the same side that led them to glory. They started the season poorly, but they’ve alternated wins and losses over the last four to steady the ship in midtable.
Leicester’s squad have been crucified with injuries. Ricardo Pereira, Wesley Fofana, Jamie Vardy, Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu, and Patson Daka are all ruled out due to injuries. Kelechi Iheanacho and Nampalys Mendy can’t play due to their international duties.
Watford will be hoping they can improve on their FA Cup performance last season. The Hornets drew Manchester United and were eliminated in the third round, but they’ll be more confident in 2022. Since Ranieri joined Watford, they’ve lifted themselves out of the relegation and scored plenty of goals in the process.
One of the biggest reasons for Watford exiting the relegation zone is Emmanuel Dennis. Watford didn’t allow the Nigerian international to go to the AFCON so they’ll have him available. In addition, new signings Samir and Hassane Kamara could both debut, However, they won’t have Imran Louza, Adam Masina, and Troost-Ekong due to AFCON duties.
Both teams had contrasting FA Cup runs during last season. Watford were eliminated in the third round by Manchester United, whereas Leicester’s FA Cup run took them to the final. But the Hornets will hope to draw inspiration from their 2019 FA Cup final journey to try and pick up the away win.
Unfortunately, Watford have struggled in recent encounters with the Foxes. They’re also enduring a six-game losing streak in the Premier League, but with Leicester’s depleted squad, it could be an interesting game at the King Power.
This game is difficult to call. Watford are in dismal form and they are sliding downwards in the Premier League table. But the FA cup can provide an escape (much like Wigan Athletic in 2013), and Leicester City are struggling for fit players for this fixture. Therefore, we are going for the shock Watford win at 5/1 with Betfred.
