The Premier League continues this weekend, with teams looking to gain momentum as the hectic Christmas period continues. For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important fixture in the Premier League this weekend between Liverpool and Aston Villa at Anfield.
Liverpool managed to secure three points on the weekend. They faced a defensively strong Wolverhampton side, but a late goal from Divock Origi secured the victory and secured second in the Premier League - for this week at least. They also became the first English team to win all six group games in midweek.
They didn’t add any fresh injury concerns with their European travels midweek. Roberto Firmino, Curtis Jones, and Harvey Elliott are certainties to miss the fixture.
Aston Villa are a side transformed under Steven Gerrard. Since arriving from Rangers, Gerrard has led his Villa side to three wins in four - one defeat to Manchester City. These wins have steered the Midlands club clear of relegation worries and into midtable.
The Villains have had a few injury problems to manage as well. Wingers such as Bertrand Traore and Leon Bailey both seem set to miss another game, whilst Danny Ings has a thigh injury that needs to be managed - he’s day-to-day.
For the first time, Steven Gerrard returns to Anfield from the dugout. The Liverpool legend will no doubt receive a warm welcome but these two sides have played out some of the more memorable Premier League fixtures in recent memory.
No Premier League fan will forget the reigning champions conceding seven at Villa Park - including Ollie Watkins netting a hattrick. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side can argue they have had some level of revenge on Villa. Last season they did the double at Anfield and Villa park - including a 2-1 victory but a more ruthless 4-1 victory in the FA Cup.
Sadly, we don’t see a recreation of the 7-2 Villa heroics of last season. We see a Liverpool win, but there should be goals considering the history between the two sides. Therefore, we’re predicting that Liverpool win the game, both teams to score, and Salah to continue his scoring streak at 64/25 with Betfred.
