The Premier League is now back in full swing, with an exciting round of fixtures coming up before we enter the first international break. For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focussing on Saturday’s titan clash between Liverpool and Chelsea, as German manager takes on German manager.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have perhaps slipped under the radar in the build up to the 2021/22 Premier League season. WHile each of the three other top four teams from last season have made blockbuster signings, Liverpool’s transfer window has been comparatively quiet. Still, the Reds have started strongly, winning their opening two games. They have scored five in the process and the return of Virgil van Dijk has proven to be as influential as predicted, with the Reds yet to concede. Goals so far have all come from their four top forward players.
Chelsea have started their season with the exact same form as their hosts this weekend. The Blues also have also scored five goals over two consecutive wins without conceding. Blockbuster signing Romelu Lukaku got off the mark against Arsenal last weekend, and all eyes will most likely be on his battle with Liverpool center half Virgil van Dijk on Saturday afternoon. Chelsea’s own backline looks strong and deep, therefore we can expect them to keep the Liverpool attacking line at bay. They will, however, be without their American winger Christian Pulisic.
The last four Premier League games have served up two wins each for Liverpool and Chelsea. Last season, each side won their away fixtures, meaning the last home win was in the 5-3 stomper in July of last year during project restart. Circumstances are very different now though, as both teams have strengthened and this is the first time Chelsea will play in front of a packed Anfield crowd since April 2019. Liverpool may have let the Anfield record slip last season, but they will be keen to re-establish their fortress.
This looks very much like being a tough contest, most likely with a low scoreline. Chelsea’s defensive record since Thomas Tuchel came in speaks for itself, while Liverpool look solid at the back once more thanks to the return of VVD. We’re therefore predicting a draw, which you can back at odds of 23/10 with Bet365.
