Liverpool and Chelsea lock horns in the Premier League on Wednesday evening less than a month before they meet in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley Stadium. Three points are up for grabs at Anfield with the home team looking to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League standings.
At the time of writing, the Reds lead the way with 48 points and are five points ahead of Manchester City, Arsenal and Aston Villa. Chelsea are down in ninth position and know that a defeat at Anfield will put a huge dent in their quest to be playing European football next season.
Liverpool have been in fine form for the majority of the season. They have only lost one game all season and that was against Tottenham Hotspur back in September. They have since gone 14 games undefeated in the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp announced last week that he would be stepping down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season. That is all the motivation his players need to ensure he goes out on a high with a second Premier League title.
They have won three successive Premier League matches and kept two clean sheets. Even without Mohamed Salah, the Reds have still been dominant in attack with Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota in fine form. Since the turn of the year, these two have scored six goals between them in all competitions.
Both of them are expected to start against the Blues with Luis Diaz also in action. The Reds will be without Salah, Alexis Mac Allister, Joel Matip and Dominik Szoboszial through injury.
Chelsea might be down in ninth position, but their recent form does not reflect their league standing. They have lost one of their last five league meetings and are on a three-game winning streak.
You would expect Chelsea to be fighting for title with the amount of quality in their squad, but it looks like a kind of transitional period under Mauricio Pochettino and he is still finding out what his best team is.
Despite not battling for the title, it could still be a successful season for the Blues as they are in the Carabao Cup Final and are still in the FA Cup.
The Blues have a few injury concerns themselves with Reece James out until the end of March with a hamstring injury. They will also be without Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella for the trip to Merseyside.
Liverpool have the slight edge over Chelsea in their head to head encounters. The Reds have won 78 of their 185 contests with the Blues being victorious in 61 of them. For Liverpool, 51 of those victories have been at Anfield.
All of the last seven meetings between Liverpool and Chelsea have ended in a draw, even their FA Cup Final and Carabao Cup Final encounters that went to penalties.
The last team to be victorious inside 90 minutes was Chelsea with a 1-0 win in 2021. That was also the last time they won at Anfield.

Our Betting Tip for Today- Diogo Jota to score and the game to end a draw @ 10/1 Ladbrokes
Liverpool are the favourites to win this game at 4/7 due to them being top of the Premier League and 17 points clear of Chelsea. The Blues are available at 17/4 with the draw at 13/4.
Diogo Jota is relishing his extended game time due to Mohamed Salah's absence. He has scored three goals in his last three matches for the Reds, so I am backing him to score again.
There have been seven consecutive draws after 90 minutes between these two teams, and despite Liverpool flying high in the league I expect the Blues to be strong defensively and come away with a point.
