Liverpool and Fulham clash in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday at Anfield. The Reds have won this competition the most times of any team with nine titles. Their last success in this competition was in 2022 when they beat Chelsea after a penalty shootout.

That shootout saw 22 penalties taken with Liverpool winning 11-10 after Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga blasted his over the crossbar. Fulham have never reached a League Cup Final in their history. It would be huge for the club if they could get past Liverpool over two legs and reach their first major final since losing in the 2010 Europa League Final.

A lot of the top teams in the Premier League are criticised for not taking the Carabao Cup seriously. Liverpool cannot be accused of that as they have won nine of their 13 Cup final appearances. Manager Jurgen Klopp might not name his strongest team, but he will always include a few of his superstars alongside his young prospects. Liverpool cruised into the semi-finals with a convincing 5-1 win over West Ham, while they will still be on a high following their FA Cup exploits at the weekend as two late goals dumped out Arsenal.

It would be huge for a club like Fulham to reach a major English Cup final. The only domestic final they have ever played in was the 1975 FA Cup Final when they lost 2-0 to West Ham United. Getting to the semi-final stage is a massive achievement for a team like Fulham. Having knocked out Everton in the previous round, the Cottagers will be hoping to pile misery on their Merseyside neighbours and move closer to a Wembley appearance. Fulham come into this clash on the back of a narrow 1-0 win in the FA Cup against Rotherham United, and they know they will need to perform better on Wednesday if they are to remain in this tie.

Liverpool have picked up 28 wins from 51 matches against Fulham with the Whites only being successful on 10 occasions. These two recently met at the beginning of December with the Reds claiming a 4-3 win thanks to two late goals. Liverpool have won two of their last three matches with Fulham with one ending in a draw. Fulham last beat Liverpool back in March 2021 at Anfield with a narrow 1-0 victory. The last time they met in a cup competition was in this tournament back in 2000 with the Reds winning 3-0.
