The Premier League continues this weekend, with the Boxing Day fixtures taking centre stage. For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important fixture in the Premier League this weekend between Liverpool and Leeds United at Anfield.
Liverpool’s winning form finally ended last weekend at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur. Jurgen Klopp’s team left London with a draw, slipping three points behind title-chasing Manchester City. They are still seven games unbeaten in the Premier League, and they can’t afford another slip in the title race when they face Leeds United on Boxing Day.
Liverpool were missing some players during their game against Tottenham Hotspur. Fabinho, Virgil Van Dijk, Curtis Jones, and Thiago all missed the game through COVID, and they’ll have to be proven negative to return against Leeds. In addition, Andrew Robertson received a red card against Spurs and he’ll miss the next three.
Whilst Liverpool’s impressive form ended with a draw, Leeds United are struggling to find any resemblance of form. Marcelo Bielsa’s team have lost three games in a row, conceding 14 goals against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City combined. They are hovering above the relegation zone, but their fixture list doesn’t get any easier with Liverpool on Boxing Day.
Some of Leeds’ bad form can be attributed to their injury issues. Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper and Patrick Bamford are all ruled out through thigh injuries. Whilst Rodrigo, Daniel James, Pascal Struijk, and Diego Llorente are all scheduled to miss the game against Liverpool with various injury concerns.
These two served up a classic when they first met last season. Liverpool won 4-3 at Anfield, but Leeds United did earn a point when the two met at Elland Road in the reverse fixture. As for this season, Liverpool came out on top in the first fixture between the two - a 3-0 victory away at Elland Road.
That win extended Liverpool’s unbeaten run against Leeds United, which now stands at eleven, and they’ll hope that can continue on Boxing Day. Both teams have injury and COVID concerns but Liverpool are overwhelming favourites.
This game should be a Liverpool win. Leeds United are relying on youngsters because of their small squad, and their defence has shipped 14 goals over three games. Therefore, we’re predicting Liverpool to win both halves and Liverpool to score over 2.5 goals with Ladbrokes at 27/20.
