Luton Town welcome Aston Villa to Kenilworth Road in the Premier League’s evening kick off on Saturday and both teams will be looking for a valuable three points.
Despite performances on the whole being very impressive, Rob Edwards’ Luton Town side have been unable to put together the results to match those performances.
They are currently on a run of five games without a win in all competitions. Every point up for grabs is incredibly valuable to Luton as they fight relegation, particularly with Everton’s point deduction being reduced to six.
Saturday’s fixture at home to Aston Villa will be another tricky one for the Hatters, having already faced three of the top six in their last three games.
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side suffered a slight blip in their form at the end of January and in early February as they went from not losing at home all season to losing three in a row at home in all competitions.
Villa have recovered though and are currently on a winning run of two games and will be looking to make that three against Luton. For Emery, the upturn in form will have come at a perfect time, with his side’s huge Conference League clash coming up in midweek.
In recent times, these two sides have not met very often at all. In fact, in the last ten years, they have met competitively just twice. One of those meetings was the reverse fixture at Villa Park back in October and the other was at Kenilworth Road in the first round of the league cup back in the 2016/17 season. Both of those games ended 3-1 to the home side meaning that both teams have a win apiece against the other.
Based on form, the likeliest looking result is an Aston Villa victory, with Unai Emery’s side in a much better league position than their opponents too. Furthermore, Luton have been poor at home recently, with the Hatters losing three games on the spin at Kenilworth Road.
Although Luton have home advantage, all signs point to Unai Emery’s side having far too much strength in their squad for the Hatters.
Villa already sit five points clear of Tottenham in fifth place and a win on Saturday is their opportunity to extend that lead. The Villans boast six wins from their 13 away games this season and have seen a plethora of goals scored in those games, with 41 being netted for a total season average of 3.15 goals per game.
While they will have one eye on their midweek European trip to Amsterdam, Villa will be expecting to win. Ollie Watkins and Douglas Luiz have been in fine recent form, scoring six goals combined in their last three.
