Luton play hosts to premier league giants Liverpool this Sunday in what is going to be a real tough test for the home team who really need to pick up some points from somewhere. Luton have only picked up 5 points so far this season and are 11/1 with Ladbrokes to take the 3 points at home and you can get 6/1 for the draw, so that tells you the uphill task the home team have this weekend.
Liverpool however are 2/9 favourites to take the 3 points back to Anfield and even though that is a short price, Luton are going to have to find some sort of Miracle to win on Sunday. I have some predictions which may be a little better value than that but let’s take a look at the two teams first of all.
Luton have struggled since joining the premier league and that is to be expected with the quality of the league and they have a mighty task on their hands this weekend. They have managed to pick up just 5 points from their 10 games so far and are going to need to starting picking up points soon before they find themselves trailing at the bottom of the pack. They are 18th at this point in time and their only goal this season will be avoiding relegation. They do have hope however as they are managing to score, but just struggling to keep them out at the other end. This is a big task for Luton this weekend
Liverpool are currently sat in 4th in the league just 3 points behind the league leaders and to me, Liverpool are really starting to find their feet again this season and will be extremely hard to beat at 2/9. They come into this fixture having wo there last two games, scoring 5 goals without return and will surely be too strong for their rivals here. Darwin Nunez now seems comfortable in a Liverpool shirt and he has become a real big player for them up front. Liverpool have a tendency to chuck in a poor performance, but they will surely take all the beating this week whatever form they turn up in.
Luton and Liverpool hardly have any head to head history and the two teams haven’t met since 2008 so it wouldn’t be fair to judge the chances on their previous records against each other. Hopefully Luton can find enough points this season to keep them in the premier league for another year and we may be able to start building some history between the two teams.
With very little previous head to head form to go on we must judge this game based on current form and I think it is quite clear how this game is going to finish up. I am going to use the outright market to make my betting tips for this week’s game.
The final premier league fixture of the week looks fairly one sided to me and Luton are going to do well to get anything from this game. Luton could really do with getting some points on the board, but it is going to be a really tough ask against a Liverpool team who are really starting to find their groove.
Luton have been playing some decent football and they are managing to score which of course helps but I think they are going to be way out of their depth this Sunday.
Now that we have assessed both teams' credentials for this fixture I have come down on a betting prediction to close out the week. I have tried to find something a little more creative than just backing Liverpool at 2/9 but even at a price as short as that they still seem good value for it. I did look at the credentials of a Liverpool win and both teams to score due to Lutons good scoring record however scoring against the Liverpool pressure won't be straight forward.
With this in mind I think the best option for this game is to back Liverpool as a straight win at 2/9. Yes, this is a very short price and shorter than I usually like to tip up. However, taking a chance on Luton scoring does not increase the value enough and chasing that value may not be wise here. 2/9 is very short but Liverpool are going to be extremely difficult to stop this weekend and I think they take all of the beating.
