The Premier League continues this weekend, with the Boxing Day fixtures taking centre stage. For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important fixture in the Premier League this weekend between Manchester City and Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City remain the most in-form team in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t lost since a shock loss to Crystal Palace at the Etihad in October, and they’ve surged into top spot in the Premier League. They humiliated Leeds United with a 7-0 victory two match days ago and they breezed past Newcastle with ease last week to remain atop the Premier League.
Manchester City have managed to avoid a COVID outbreak during the winter period. Joao Cancelo returned against Newcastle after serving his yellow card suspension, and Guardiola will be hoping Kyle Walker returns to full fitness after being short of fitness a week ago.
Leicester City have had a polarising season. After already exiting the Europa League, Brendan Rodgers’ side haven’t been able to recreate the form they have shown in previous years and they currently sit ninth in the league. Over recent weeks, they have managed to pick up a few victories - two in four games - so the best might be ahead for Leicester.
However, they still have their defensive injury worries. Jonny Evans has a thigh injury which required a scan (he has a 25% chance of playing), Jannik Vestegaard and Filip Benkovic both have COVID and they don’t have a return date yet. Some attackers also have suffered from illness such as Kelechi Iheanacho, Ayoze Perez and Ademola Lookman.
In recent years, not many teams can say they have a good record against Manchester City. However, Leicester have fared relatively well against Pep Guardiola’s men. They were edged 1-0 at the King Power earlier in the season but they can take confidence from splitting wins with City during last season.
Though they are usually close, Manchester City do tend to be victorious when these two sides meet. They have only been defeated three times in the last 12 matches against the Foxes and City will look to profit on a weakened Leicester side.
Manchester City’s form doesn’t look like stopping. They have dispatched every team in front of them since losing to Crystal Palace, and we don’t think Leicester can change that. Therefore, we’re predicting Manchester City to win to nil and to win with a -1 handicap with Betfred at 99/50.
