Manchester City welcome defending champions Liverpool to the Etihad on Sunday for what should be a gripping Premier League contest. Both sides are in strong form.
Pep Guardiola’s City side have enjoyed a good run of impressive results in recent weeks. They hammered Olympiakos 3-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, a result that followed on from a 1-0 win in the Premier League at Sheffield United. They are gathering momentum now after a shaky start to the season that sees them currently down in 10th place in the table. City have scored an average of 1.5 goals per league match, and conceded an average of 1.33.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are now back where they will feel that they belong – at the top of the Premier League table. A 5-0 away win at Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday will have boosted confidence, while they have won five out of seven Premier League games so far this season. Mo Salah has hit seven league goals for the Reds, with Sadio Mane netting four. City will need to deal with that goalscoring threat.
Contests between these two Premier League heavyweights have been hard to call in recent times. Both sides have a fair recent record against the other, although City won 4-0 when they last clashed in the summer The Reds went on to win the Premier League title, and in imperious fashion, so it is hard to read too much into the result. We think backing Mo Salah to score any time at odds of 13/10 at Betway looks a good wager.
Our tip for this game comes from Betway, who are offering odds of 23/10 on the 1X2 market on Liverpool to win. We think the Reds have such firepower in their forward line, and have been in such good form recently, that they will take three points back up the East Lancs Road to Merseyside. It may well be decided by just one goal, though. This is a very hard game to call, given recent results, but the Reds will edge it.
