The Premier League continues this weekend, with teams looking to gain momentum as the hectic Christmas period continues. For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important fixture in the Premier League this weekend between Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City finally returned to the summit of the Premier League after securing their fifth-straight victory in the league. Whilst Chelsea dropped points this weekend, Guardiola’s side dominated Watford at Vicarage Road to leap the London side. They may have been defeated in midweek by RB Leipzig, but they have been unstoppable in their domestic league performance.
For this fixture, City will continue to be without Ferran Torres. Torres is nursing a foot injury, while Phil Foden was taken off prematurely on their trip to Leipzig on Tuesday. Gabriel Jesus has a knock to deal with, so his status is uncertain.
Wolverhampton Wanderers managed to string together a decent run of form under Bruno Lage. They are now three without a win, but are proving to be a difficult side to beat. They faced Liverpool this past weekend, and it took the former champions 90+ minutes to open the scoring in a 1-0 defeat.
Wolves’ injuries are piling up defensively. At left-back, Jonny Otto will be absent until 2022, Marcal has tested positive for COVID-19, and Ait Nouri is currently evaluated at a 25% chance of playing. Willy Boly is confirmed to be unavailable.
These two have split doing the double over the past two years. Manchester City dominated both fixtures during the 2020/21 season. They ran out 4-1 victors at the Etihad, as well as winning 3-1 in the reverse fixture at Molineux.
Whereas in 2019/20, Wolverhampton Wanderers were one of the only sides to do the double over the Citizens. They pulled off a shock 2-0 victory at the Etihad through Adama Traore, before winning a thrilling 3-2 at home. However, this Wolves side has proven to be much less vulnerable defensively.
Manchester City are an unstoppable force at the moment. They haven’t lost in five Premier League games, and they won’t want to lose their grip on top spot. However, Wolves have proven that they can be a defence that stifles the most potent of attacks. Therefore, we have City to win to nil and under 2.5 goals with Ladbrokes at 9/4.
