For the first time this season, the Premier League teams enter the FA Cup at the third round stage.  For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important all-Premier League tie in the FA Cup between Manchester United and Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

Manchester United haven’t had the season that fans hoped for. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired, and Ralph Rangnick’s appointment did bring a slight upturn in-form. They have won three of the last five - but they did suffer a defeat to Wolves and a draw with Newcastle.

Rangnick has a strong squad to choose from for Monday’s fixture. Eric Bailly will be absent because of the African Cup of Nations, whilst Paul Pogba has been out for numerous months due to a groin injury.

Since arriving from Rangers, Gerrard led his Villa side to three wins in four but they have plateaued in recent weeks. They had alternated between wins and losses over the last five before back-to-back losses as the hands of Brentford and Chelsea.

Like many teams, Aston Villa have some players on international duty. Trezeguet and Anwar El Ghazi are both out due to being called up to the African Cup of Nations, whilst Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey are missing out due to injuries.

Both teams fared differently in the FA Cup last season. Aston Villa fell to a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool, whereas Manchester United managed to make it to the quarter final before losing to eventual winners Leicester City.

Despite their struggles, Manchester United have been victorious on most occasions against Aston Villa. They hadn’t lost to Villa since 2009 before they met at Old Trafford earlier this season, when Dean Smith’s side ran out 1-0 winners.
