The Premier League continues this weekend, after a round of midweek fixtures. Teams are battling COVID, with the hectic Christmas period amongst us. For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important fixture in the Premier League this weekend between Manchester United and Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have been reinvigorated under Ralph Rangnick. Since Solskjaer exited Old Trafford, United haven’t lost a single game. They secured four points from six in the Premier League as the German watched from the stands, and since he’s been on the touchline they’ve secured back-to-back wins.
However, COVID-19 has dampened spirits on the red side of Manchester. The team wasn’t able to play Brentford during midweek, but some players have returned to training this week following the outbreak. Players such as Paul Pogba and Victor Lindelof are definitely going to miss the fixture.
Brighton themselves had to miss out on Premier League action last weekend. COVID-19 ran riot through Tottenham Hotspur, so Brighton had to take the weekend off. As of writing, Brighton haven’t played Wolves, but the Seagulls have struggled to pick up wins. They’ve drawn four of the last five, slipping to 12th in the table.
As for injuries - Brighton are struggling. Steven Alzate, Lewis Dunk, and Danny Welbeck are all ruled out, whilst Shane Duffy is suspended after receiving five yellow cards. Fortunately both Adam Webster and Adam Lallana could return to action during this weekend’s game.
Brighton and Hove Albion are probably sick of seeing Manchester United. They have lost the last five against the Reds, including the heartbreaking defeat in 2020. Brighton thought they had earned a point at the Amex before Bruno Fernandes netted the winning penalty after the final whistle.
To add to Brighton’s worries, Manchester United have found some consistency during Rangnick’s short time with the club. They have two-straight 1-0 wins and are on the ascendency whilst Brighton have failed to recapture the early season form which had them in the top four.
Manchester United appear to have solved the defensive woes that plagued them during the early portion of the season. Therefore, we think a safe bet is Manchester United defeating Brighton to nil with Betfred at 7/5.
