The Premier League returns this weekend after a two-week hiatus due to the International break. These fixtures include the crucial matchup between both Manchester United and Leicester City at Old Trafford.
The week before the international break saw Manchester United sat fourth in the Premier League table. Fast forward three weeks and the Red Devils sit sixth - four points behind Arsenal after playing a game more.
This crucial matchup with Leicester City provides the opportunity for Ralph Rangnicks men to earn back-to-back league wins and maybe close the gap on Arsenal. Fortunately, United will have their entire squad to choose from besides Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan picked up another injury on international duty.
Leicester City have been a polarising watch in the Premier League this season. Brendan Rodgers’ side are entering Saturday’s game with three wins in their last four, but the Foxes have struggled to have continuous form throughout 2021. So it depends which Leicester shows up at Old Trafford.
One thing is for certain with Leicester - injuries have hampered their season. Both Jamie Vardy and Wilfred Ndidi are set for a spell on the sidelines, and their injury list also includes Ryan Bertrand who hasn’t received a return date.
This game means more to Manchester United than Leicester. As previously mentioned, the gap between Manchester United and Arsenal for the final Champions League spot is growing, and they cannot afford another slip-up this season. Especially against Leicester who have nothing to play for in midtable.
Despite a win being more valuable to Manchester United, they’ve been on the wrong end of the results against Leicester recently. They’ve lost three-straight against Brendan Rodgers - including a 4-2 hammering in the first fixture when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was at the wheel.
Nowe the history suggests that Leicester are a formidable opponent for Manchester United. And that may be true. But we cannot see Manchester United allowing Arsenal to go seven points ahead of them in the race for top four. We suggest backing a United win at Old Trafford by one with Unibet at 14/5.
