The Premier League continues this weekend, with one of the biggest fixtures in English football taking place. For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the massive fixture in the Premier League this weekend between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Manchester United were uninspiring before the international break and this continued last weekend post-break. The Manchester side fell to another defeat against Leicester City and are three-straight without a win. Pressure is building on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and this may continue if they fail to beat Liverpool.
One bonus from Saturday’s defeat, Marcus Rashford returned from injury and returned to the scoresheet. In addition, Harry Maguire returned from injury quicker than expected but looked rusty upon return. However, no such look for Raphael Varane as he looks set to miss this fixture and more after being injured in the Nations League.
Whilst Manchester United slumped to defeat this past weekend, Liverpool were busy dispatching Watford at Vicarage Road. The Merseyside club put five past ‘The Hornets’ and kept their unbeaten start to the campaign going.
Thiago missed Liverpool’s victory against Watford and he will miss the game at Old Trafford too. In addition, Harvey Elliott is a long-term absence but Liverpool fans can be hopeful that fellow youngster Curtis Jones will be fit enough to play. Jurgen Klopp confirmed the 20-year-old will be “ready for Manchester United” this past week.
Manchester United against Liverpool is one of, if not the most, historic fixture in English football. Both teams have had their spell of dominance in the fixture, however, it is the Merseyside club who have fared the better in recent history.
Liverpool managed to go undefeated in both Premier League outings against ‘The Red Devils’ last year, despite losing in the FA Cup at Old Trafford. Draws have also been plentiful when these sides meet. Half of their last six have ended with the points being shared but will that continue this weekend?
Overall, Liverpool should win this fixture. However, nothing is guaranteed at Old Trafford, and Manchester United don’t have a shabby record when playing Liverpool at home. Besides last year, United hadn’t lost at home to Liverpool since 2014. So we’re covering both chances, Liverpool to win or a draw and both teams to score with Ladbrokes at 21/20.
