Both nations edged their way to three points in the opening round. This encounter should be a great watch at the Red Bull Arena.
The Netherlands opening encounter was a hard-fought victory over Poland. Adam Buska’s header gave Michal Probierz’s side an early lead. Koeman’s men equalised shortly after. Cody Gakpo’s strike deflected off Bartosz Salamon and ended up in the back of the net. Wout Weghorst was the hero. He was on for just two minutes before he scored.
An improved performance is vital. Holland can’t afford to be as wasteful in front of the goal as they were against the Poles. There’s a nice balance to this squad. A clash with France will give us a better understanding of how good they are.
The Dutch have scored in 14 consecutive matches. If they are to expect to earn something from this game, that streak will need to continue.
France also began their Euro 2024 campaign with a win. A single goal was enough to claim all three points against Austria. Max Wober was the unlucky one who diverted a French cross into his own net. Kylian Mbappe could’ve had a brace any other night. The only thing he left Dusseldorf with was a broken nose.
Didier Deschamps’ men are always going to be in the mix. The quality they possess is freighting. Their depth is arguably the strongest in the competition. Germany has been the only side to defeat Les Bleus since the World Cup.
France will be confident arriving here. They have had the upper hand in recent meetings. It’s the game of the day on Friday. Let’s hope so, anyway.
France defeated Koeman’s men in qualification. In March 2023, Les Bleus cruised to a 4-0 victory at Stade de France. Antoine Griezmann and Upamecano both scored within ten minutes. A brace from Kylian Mbappe sealed all three points. It is a fantastic way to introduce yourself as captain.
It was him again. Kylian Mbappe scored both goals in a 2-1 win later in the year. The French did the double over the Netherlands. 51,000 fans attended the clash at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam.
It’ll be interesting to see how this clash plays out. France are the favourites, but it’s unclear whether Kylian Mbappe features. He’ll wear a mask to protect his nose. Only time will tell.
Memphis Depay and Cody Gakpo must take their chances. The pair had nine shots in their win over Poland.
With international encounters played far less than club football, statistics and form are rarely consistent. The teams have met many times over the years. France have the upper hand after winning both clashes in 2023.
Despite that, here are three interesting stats ahead of this Euro 2024 match between Netherlands vs France.
After looking through the markets to provide a selection, I’ve decided that my bet comes from the prop market. Two players from the Dutch side make up a nice-looking double. Let’s hope that they’re shooting at will once again.
This game is tricky to call. France is the favourite, but not by much. Goals could be few and far between. Then again, we could see plenty of them. I’m backing Memphis Depay and Cody Gakpo each to have two or more shots.
The pair accumulated nine shots between them against Poland. Depay managed four, whilst Cody racked up an impressive five. This encounter is a level above in terms of opposition. Chances will be less frequent; I still fancy the duo's chances.
Memphis Depay averaged 3.85 shots per 90 for Atletico Madrid in the 23/24 season. He’s a man that isn’t afraid to unleash an attempt. He saves his best football for the national team.
Gakpo’s 3.61 shots per 90 for Liverpool isn’t far behind. The goal he scored in the opener will give him confidence. The man is a threat and loves to cut inside from the flank.
Both attackers will likely play an influential role in the clash with France. They’re the two forwards who can cause damage. They were both busy against Poland. I’m hoping they can both unleash two shots. The selection is priced at 2.30 (13/10).
