The Premier League continues this weekend, after a round of midweek fixtures. Teams are battling COVID, with the hectic Christmas period amongst us.  For today’s betting tip, we’ll be focusing on the important fixture in the Premier League this weekend between Newcastle United and Manchester City at St. James’ Park. 

Newcastle United haven’t quite got the desired resurgence under Eddie Howe. They’ve won one game since the former Bournemouth man took charge, and their schedule doesn’t lighten up. They have Liverpool on Thursday evening and they face Manchester City on the weekend - a tough run for the Magpies.

Eddie Howe can be thankful that his side aren’t struggling with injuries. They have two defensive worries with Paul Dummett and Federico Fernandez both confirmed to be absent, but everybody else is healthy.

Manchester City are the most in-form team in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t lost since a shock loss to Crystal Palace at the Etihad in October, and they’ve surged into top spot in the Premier League. They humiliated Leeds United with a 7-0 victory and 19th-placed Newcastle are next for the Citizens.

They managed to defeat Leeds United without Portuguese full back Joao Cancelo. The defender returns this weekend after serving his yellow card suspension, but City will again be without Ferran Torres till the new year.

You’ll struggle to find any team in the Premier League that has a good record against Manchester City since Pep Guardiola took the reins at the Etihad. This is true for Newcastle. The Magpies have lost four-straight against Manchester City - including a heartbreaking 4-3 loss at St. James’ Park last season.

For a Newcastle United win, they’ll have to draw on their victory at home in 2019. They shocked City with a 2-1 victory, but these teams are much different now.
