The Premier League returns this weekend following the international break with Newcastle United looking to get back to winning ways and climb up the ladder.
West Ham United will be looking to continue their unbeaten league run to five matches and move a step closer to securing a place in Europe next season.
Before the international break, the Magpies were turned over 3-2 away at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.
They are currently in 10th position and failure to win on Saturday could seriously end their own hopes of European football next season. If that happens, the season will be deemed a failure seeing as they started this campaign in the Champions League.
Newcastle still have a number of selection worries with Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope still on the injured list with calf and shoulder problems respectively.
Harvey Barnes is currently recovering from a hamstring injury and may be in contention, while Joelinton and Callum Wilson are not yet ready to return.
The Magpies are also still without Italian Sandro Tonali who is suspended until the end of August due to illegal betting activity.
The Hammers are going about the business quite well this season. They are currently seventh on the league ladder and are just nine points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fifth spot.
West Ham last tasted defeat in the Premier League on February 17th when they went down 2-0 away at Nottingham Forest.
Since then they have won two and drawn two, they come into this contest on the back of a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa.
Maxwel Cornet has been out since the end of February with a hamstring injury, but he could return this weekend. Edson Alvarez will not feature as he is suspended. Mohammed Kudos is also unable to feature against Newcastle after picking up a knee injury in the draw against Aston Villa.
These two have met each other 112 times over the years with Newcastle United winning 47 of them and West Ham being victorious on 36 occasions.
These two have already met in the Premier League this season with the game ending in a 2-2 draw thanks to a late equaliser from West Ham’s Mohammed Kudos.
The last game that took place at St James’ Park was February 2023 with the game ending in a 1-1 draw. Three of their last four Premier League matches have ended level.
West Ham United last claimed three points at Newcastle United in 2021 when they ran out 4-2 winners.
Both Newcastle and West Ham need the three points to close the gap on the teams directly above them. Take a look at the stats surrounding the two teams and check out the best betting odds before kick-off on Saturday.
Our Betting Tip for Today- Draw & BTTS – 7/2 @ Bet365
Newcastle United are the favourites to win with the game being at St James’ Park. They can be backed at 5/6 with West Ham on offer at 14/5. The draw can be backed at 16/5.
Both teams like to play attacking football, but they are not the best at the back either.
Newcastle have kept one clean sheet in their last 10 league matches and the last time they failed to score in the Premier League was in December when they lost away at Luton Town.
West Ham have failed to keep a clean sheet in nine matches in the Premier League. They have scored in four straight matches, so they know where the goal is.
Recent history between Newcastle and West Ham has seen three draws from their last four meetings. All three of the draws saw both teams scoring, so I am backing that to happen again.
