The NFL campaign gets underway this week with a Super Bowl rematch taking place in the early hours of Thursday morning with defending champions Seattle Seahawks hosting New England Patriots at Lumen Field.
It is a brilliant game to open up the new season, while there will be the first-ever NFL game played in Australia on Friday morning (UK time) when the LA Rams take on Sam Francisco 49ers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
With 32 teams in action, it would be impossible to write previews and distribute NFL betting tips on every single game. So, the remainder of this page will feature previews for some of the games I think will steal the show in week 1.
Our NFL tipster Dave Kuzio has written an NFL season betting preview as well as an NFL Acca for week 1. Check them both out.
This is a Super Bowl rematch from last season, and although there is not as much on the line this week, this should still be an entertaining game. The Pats will be looking for instant revenge, while the Seahawks will be keen to exert their dominance again and send a message that last season was no fluke. Both teams have a couple of injury concerns going into week 1 of the season. The Seahawks will be without Ty Okada after not attending practice due to a hamstring problem, while Nick Emmanwori and Tory Horton are both questionable despite taking part in practice. The Pats will definitely be without Ben Brown and TreVeyon Henderson due to knee and ankle problems respectively, but Christian Barmore is expected to play after returning to training. The Seahawks have lost a few of their title winning squad with Kenneth Walker III, Boyle Mafe, Coby Bryant and Cam Akers all leaving, but they picked up eight players in the draft and have lept the likes of Sam Darnold, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Harrison Bryant. I am backing Seattle to win this game with JSN scoring two or more TDs and Darnold passing for over 25o yards.
The NFL will make history on Friday (UK time) when they play a first ever weekly round in Australia with the Niners taking on the Rams at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground. Both teams already have injury concerns before a ball has been snapped. The Niners are without Defensive Lineman Alfred Collins with a knee problem, while James Thompson Jr is a doubt with a hamstring issue. The Rams will be without Aaron Donald for the trip to Australia, he does not have an injury but he is being rested. The Rams ran out 42-26 winners when these last met in November. Now, I am backing the Rams to be victorious, but I cannot see it being that high scoring. Matthew Stafford will be looking for a fast start, and I am backing him to throw over 250 passing yards and connect for two or more TDs with his passes. I think the Niners will have a good season, but they will not beat the Rams. I expect George Kittle to score a TD. All eyes will be on his celebration because he has met former NRL player Jai Arrow who is battling with MND. A lot of rugby league players have been honouring Arrow with a 'bow and arrow' celebration when they score and there has been calls for Kittle to do the same. He has said he cannot do the celebration because it is seen as weapon and he would be fined by the NFL. Arrow has offered to pay his fine, so let's see what happens. I honestly think we will all be cheering on Kittle to score to see what happens.
LA Rams to win - 10/21 @ Betfred
Matthew Stafford to throw over 250 yards - 8/13 @ Betfred
Matthew Stafford to throw 2+ TD passes - 20/29 @ Betfred
George Kittle to score a TD anytime - 11/4
The first touchdown of each game can be very crucial - just like a goal in football or a try in rugby league. Below are a selection of players we feel have a good chance of scoring the opening TD of the game.
Sky Sports is the main broadcaster for NFL in the UK and they show one game on Thursday evening, three games on Sunday and one on Monday Night Football. They also have the Redzone show that covers every game so you do not miss a second of the scoring action.
Sky Sports like to pick their favourites to show live, so if you support an unpopular team, you might not feature on Sky very often in the season. The good news is that Bet365 will stream every single game live on their website or betting app.
You just need to have a funded account or have placed a bet 24 hours prior to be available. Bet365 is the home of NFL live streaming and you do not have to miss a minute of your teams season.
