This year’s Champions League final is sure to be a classic. Bayern Munich are looking unstoppable, but Paris Saint Germain will be keen to make success of their first appearance in the final. We’ll give you our predictions about what’s going to happen in this clash between the two European heavyweights.
Will Robert Lewandowski continue his epic goalscoring form for Bayern? Or can Neymar inspire his PSG teammates to seize the biggest prize in European club football? Find out in our betting tips.
Paris Saint Germain will be relishing the chance to play in their first-ever Champions League final. It’s incredible that such a high-spending club has never reached this stage before. But PSG came up with the goods when they deservedly beat a tough RB Leipzig team 3-0 in the semi-final.
It seems that PSG are getting the team spirit necessary to live up to their own hype. Neymar appears to be finally growing up and working hard for his team-mates. While Kylian Mbappe can be relied upon to deliver some devastating pace up front.
Plus head coach Thomas Tuchel appears to have the authority to successfully manage the egos of this famous French team. All of which means that PSG could deliver the goods on Sunday night.
It’s been a stellar season for Bayern. The German club are on the longest unbeaten run in the top five European leagues with an average of over three goals each game. They have won their past 20 games, including their last 10 Champions League matches.
Bayern’s incredible 8-2 win over Barcelona was probably the biggest footballing story of the season. Plus they demolished both Tottenham and Chelsea on their way to the final.
Hansi Flick’s team produced yet another excellent performance to win 3-0 against Lyon in the semi-final. All of which means that Bayern are looking in great form for their 11th appearance in the biggest European club football tournament.
It’s interesting to see that these footballing titans have only met each other eight times before in European competitive football. Of these games, PSG have the upper hand with five wins, compared to three for Bayern. There have never been any draws between these two sides.
The last time that these two clubs met was in December 2017. This saw Bayern earning a deserved 3-1 victory over PSG. Robert Lewandowski scored the German club’s opening goal, while Corentin Tolisso picked up the two others. Kylian Mbappe scored Paris Saint Germain’s consolation goal. It was an evenly matched game with both team’s sharing a similar amount of possession. But Bayern got the goals where it counted in this Champions League group stage match.
Prior to this, PSG comfortably beat Bayern 3-0 at home with Neymar getting his name on the scoresheet. You’d have to go back a further 17 years to see these two teams in action against each other. Notable results here include Bayern’s 5-1 thrashing of PSG in October 1997. But this was followed up by Paris Saint Germain beating the Bavarian team 3-1 just a month later.
All of which shows that this match could go either way. The good news that it always seems to produce plenty of goals. There have been an average of 2.88 goals per game between these two sides. Given that Bayern have already scored 40 goals in the current Champions League campaign, this average could soon end up being much higher.
Robert Lewandowski has already scored a staggering 55 goals this season. 15 of these have been in the Champions League. If the Bayern striker gets a hat-trick against PSG, he’ll have beaten Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for the highest number of goals scored in a single Champions League season.
Neymar is finally showing PSG what he’s capable of. The Brazilian star has seemingly matured over the current season. Gone is much of the play-acting, and the pairing of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe is a deadly partnership.
While PSG will have plenty of confidence, it’s hard to deny that Bayern Munich are looking unstoppable. Any team that can beat Barcelona 8-2 is clearly onto a good thing. From Lewandowski to Serge Gnabry, to Thomas Muller and Alphonso Davies, the German team is packed with quality.
This is why we have predicted that Bayern will comfortably win the Champions League final. However, we can imagine PSG getting at least one goal. So our tip is that Bayern Munich will win, but both teams will score. At the moment, BetVictor has odds of 3.00 for this outcome.
