One of two Champions League round of 16 clashes takes place on Wednesday where Dortmund take a slender 2-1 advantage to Paris in one of the round’s most eagerly anticipated contests. Dortmund’s somewhat surprising win came courtesy of young Erling Haaland’s brace that sealed the narrow victory in Dortmund. Neymar temporarily leveled the tie before Haaland struck a thunderous shot from outside the area. Psg have been knocked out at this stage in the last 3 seasons and with an investment of over a billion euros in place, their Qatari owners have started to lose all patience. This match could be a do or die contest for manager Thomas Tuchel.
With PSG currently 22 points clear in yet another dominant showing in Ligue 1, it is safe to say that the Champions League is the one they are really after. Their financial strength has overpowered and bullied the rest of the competition. Since their 2-1 defeat in Dortmund, the French side have won all 3 fixtures since, scoring a whopping 13 goals in the process. They will need Talismen Neymar and Mbappe to be firing on all cylinders to break down a resilient Dortmund outfit, whilst also being wary at the back for the extremely fast paced attackers that the Germans possess in their arsenal. Thiago Silva will have his hands full with the emerging Haaland leading the line. The game will be won or lost with the battle of these two superstars one feels.
Dortmund have been in excellent form, winning their last 5 matches, which includes the first leg 2-1 result against the Parisiens. Since that result, they have managed to keep the pace up with Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich with 3 consecutive wins in the German league Eriling Haaland has made his mid season move to Germany look as easy as a duck taking to water, scoring 9 in his opening 8 matches, 2 of which came in the first leg of this match. The Germans are enjoying an excellent season. Jadon Sancho, the young English winger, has registered the most combined goals and assists in the whole of Europe, even surpassing Lionel Messi. Both players will be seen as PSG’s biggest threat, if these two can combine to register an away goal then PSG will have an almighty challenge on their hands.
This will only be the 4th match up between the sides. The first 2 matches occured way back in the group stages of the 2010/2011 season, with both games ending in a draw. Of course, their most reason game was the first leg of this round of 16 encounter, ending in a 2-1 home win for the Germans. PSG must win to have any chance of going through, and will need to win by more than 1 goal should the Germans bag an away goal.
Liverpool will be looking to let out all their frustration over losing the chance of matching Arsenal’s invincible season with their loss to Watford by going all guns out blazing and ripping Bournemouth to shreds. We expect Liverpool to go goal crazy, with the overs market coming in correctly in their last 8 fixtures. We feel the over 2.5 goals market offered at 1.53 on Bet365 is too good to turn down.
Our top betting tip for the match between PSG and Borussia Dortmund this midweek is to bet on the over 2.5 goals market. Both teams have an abundance of attacking talent on show and PSG will be forced to attack the Germans with all their might. However this may leave them vulnerable at the back and in danger of being countered by Dortmund’s pacey wingers. We will there is good value on this market. Both teams have been scoring goals for fun and it would be a waste to not have a look at this market. Even though the odds of this happening may be low, it is still good value
