Portugal won all ten of their EURO qualifiers, finishing eight points clear of Slovakia in second spot, scoring an impress 36 goals along the way - as well as conceding just two. Convincing friendly wins over Sweden, Finland and Ireland have carried that trend on, although perhaps defeats to Croatia and Slovenia show they are a couple of cracks on show. Still, far from relying on Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal have one of the strongest teams on paper heading into the tournament - and they certainly know how to dominate tournament football.
Although Czech Republic finished above Poland in their EURO qualifiers, they were outdone by Albania on goal difference. And while they head into this fixture full of hope after five wins on the bounce, only Norway half stands out on that list.Sparta Prague's Jan Kuchta has been impressive this campaign scoring 17 league goals in 32 appearances, and he will be their main hope of an upset in their opener. However, the gulf in class is evident, and the Czech's will be looking to hold firm and claim a point - at best - vs Portugal.
The last four head-to-heads between these two nations have seen Portugal come out on top, and you have to go all the way back to 2008 the last time Czech Republic found the back of the net against their next opponents. More recently, these two faced off in the Nations League back in 2022, where Portugal hammered the Czechs 4-0 in their own back yard. Goals from Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Jota were part of an impressive performance on the night. The Czechs recent form has been strong, but their opponents haven't, and a return against one of Europe's best teams will likely see them fall short in their opening match.
In their five head-to-head meetings to date, Czech Republic have scored once in a 3-1 defeat back in 2008. Portugal not only qualified winning all ten matches, but they also only conceded two goals. As mentioned, there's a gulf in quality between these two nations and Portugal should record a comfortable victory.
An exciting looking match in Group F looks likely to fall the way of Portugal. Towards the top of the betting market, they are expected to run deep in this tournament, and three points can help set the tone against Czech Republic.
Having failed to top their EURO qualification group, Czech Republic won five friendlies in a row as they prepared for the EUROs. However, wins over North Macedonia, Malta, Armenia and Moldova won't intimidate the likes of Portugal.Portugal have endured mixed success in their pre-tournament friendlies, but have continued to score at an alarming rate and with so much quality across their midfield and attacking line, that doesn't look like slowing down in Group F.
Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the line, but with Bernardo Silva, Joao Felix, and Rafael Leao either side of him, it'll be difficult to stop them.Portugal will be pretty pleased with their group, who will be hoping to have first spot wrapped up before their final match vs Georgia. With Portugal dominating recent head-to-heads, I'm proposing backing Porugal to win to nil at 6/4 with bet365.
