It’s been an exciting start to the season with Scottish football, and it’s about to get a whole lot hotter as the first Old Firm derby of the season is already upon us. Can Ange’s seemingly revitalised attacking side see of Gerard’s champions? Let’s take a look at our latest betting tips!
Rangers haven’t exactly picked up where they left off from last season. A disappointing Champions League exit to Swedish side Malmö followed a shock defeat to Dundee United. Gerrard’s side did manage to qualify for the Europa League group stages on Thursday, though the 0-0 draw with Alshkert was disappointing given Morelos’ missed chances. A Covid outbreak in the Rangers camp means that several key players could be missing on Sunday, including Steven Gerrard on the touchline. Rangers will have home advantage with no Celtic fans permitted inside the stadium. However, there have been questions over players’ performances under the pressure of the Ibrox crowd.
Things looked very bleak in the East End of Glasgow going into the 2021/22 season, but how things can quickly be turned around. Attacking-wise, Celtic’s attacking form under new manager Ange Postecoglou has been blistering. New Japanese signing Kyogo Furuhashi has hit the ground running, scoring seven goals in his first seven appearances for the Hoops. The defensive line remains shaky for Celtic, but veteran keeper Joe Hart does seem to have brought some maturity there. Despite the former Spurs keeper making a couple of mistakes again AZ Alkmaar on Thursday, he bounced back to produce two tie-winning saves.
Steven Gerrard’s side have completely dominated this fixture recently, as they are undefeated in their last six against Celtic, winning five of those. The last time the Green side of Glasgow won this fixture, was in the League Cup final back in December 2019. The last five games have all been played inside empty stadiums, so the return of fans could well be a deciding factor this Sunday. The packed Ibrox crowd will consist only of Rangers fans, with no away section being allocated. The pressure of the home fans could either help or hinder the Gers players.
One thing that’s certain this Sunday, is that there will be goals at either end. With Celtic in such blistering form going forward, we see them scoring at least once, however, we also see them being exposed at the back. Out tip for this game is a Celtic win with both teams to score at odds of 4/1 with Bet365.
